WTF, bad optimization or what?
My FPS averages around 45 FPS on my GTX 1660. No SSAA, even tried disabling AA completely but I still get sub-50 FPS walking around the city during the intro looking for Daigo.
If I put it at the "Low" preset with my FPS uncapped, it still only reaches about 75-80 FPS when I'm looking at more simple geometry. And in addition it looks worse than the original PS2 title so I'd rather not do that anyway.
Anyone else getting performance issues? Looked it up and apparently "performance issues" just aren't really a big thing with this game.

Yeah, it's kind of unoptimized. The other dragon engine games though are pretty optimized as far as ports can go

Ive seen many threads of people saying how bad performance is so you were looking in the wrong place
This game just is not optimised well

If you compare Kiwami 2 to Kiwami 1, the second installment is technically much more impressive. Besides better graphics and more details, Kiwami 2 has more seamless world. For example shops and fights aren't anymore loaded separately. Also physics engine in Kiwami 2 does much work, because world has more objects and objects are more dynamic. These are things where lowering graphic quality has little impact.

The problem isn't bad optimization, but fact that the game is simply demanding. GTX 1660 or my RX 570 doesn't quite meet recommended system requirements for 60 fps. But then again Kiwami 2 is pretty much the most impressive game I have that my system can run. Therefore I'm quite happy to push my system to the limits and enjoy the gorgeous 50 fps result.

If i am correct there is a guide here on steam that lets you download a fan made patch. Dont know if that fixes the framerate but it does fix some of the minigames.

I agree. This game is unoptimized. I'm playing on an i7-11700k, RTX 2080 Super, 32GB 3200 RAM and have the game installed on a M.2 NVME and I still can't get more than 40 frames. Doesn't matter if I set everything to low or maxed out... still sticks at 40fps and is jerky to play. Before I upgraded my CPU, it was doing the same thing with my i7-7700k.

well at least that 11700K will heat up the room on cold nights.:lunar2019piginablanket:
In any case something just ain't right because im getting almost double the framerate with just rx580 + 5600x. And its not even on my ssd

Grab Kaldaien's Special K mod, it fixes some underlying issues that tank performance and framerate stability. Frankly I'd recommend Special K for all the Yakuza ports after Kiwami 1, they've all got some serious issues (though not sure with 7, haven't played it yet)

As for what's causing the problems I couldn't tell you. 6 and Kiwami 2's versions of Dragon Engine are extremely heavy performance-wise but it should have been a case of powering through it with better hardware than their original releases. The engine was still being developed when those games came out on PS4 so they're not optimised as well as they could be. But this is all just guesswork, ultimately I don't know what I'm talking about.

However with the ports, I don't know what QLOC did but these games just don't run well once you hit a certain performance cap with Kiwami 2 and the 3, 4 and 5 ports. Whatever it is Special K seems to let your hardware run the game as it should.

EDIT: Just want to say I happened to be testing Kiwami 2 just now, it was running exactly the same as my old geforce 2080 build at 4K 75% before I turned Special K on, unstable 30-40fps got fixed up to a stable 60fps and peak of 90fps at 4K native on a 3090 after turning it on so there's no harm in trying even if your specs are different.

Yeah, the fan patch that zeeko683 posted above fixed all the issues immediately. I'm streaming through them all, so I'll grab the Special K mod when I get to Yakuza 3 next if it has issues like YK 2 has. Thanks

What worked for me was changing the game from borderless fullscreen to exclusive fullscreen. Still doesn't run amazingly well, but haven't dropped below 60 since changing that. All settings are at their highest with the exception of AA being on regular SMAA, and motion blur + depth of field being off. Those shouldn't really have any performance hit though.
i7 7770k
32 GB DDR4
GTX 1080 @ 1440p

Haven't tried any third party tool or patch.

I play this game on windows store on an i7-4770k and GTX 1080, perfect 60fps, maybe it's the steam version that's the issue?
