Something funny about the series
Every single Yakuza member, from the youngest to the oldest, is freaking jacked as a Mutherf_c:ker. Seriously, spent a good amount of time in Japan and Asia and I can say most guys are either super skinny and bony, with only a few guys super ripped. These aren't usually gang members though, those guys for the most part are either skinny as hell (and think they are tough), or fat.

I guess it is just a Japanese thing like how in the animes they have really skinny looking guys but as soon as they take off their shirts they have perfect muscle, same thing with girls, they are skinny but the boobies are "Trish Stratus-like."

The only exception is probably Majima, he isn't really buff but still pretty damn shredded.

I haven't play Like a Dragon yet but I am guessing the end will involve a shirtless fist fight and both of the guys will be super shredded.

I dunno, there's some fat yakuza characters throughout the games, some of them are still well-built under the fat, but some, not so much.

On the whole though, a lot of characters are more toned than is realistic, but what else is new. You can say that about the majority of video games.

Kiryu and ryuji are specifically muscular because they just worked out alot. We've seen kiryu eat, and he eats alot. He probably went to the gym regularly with nishiki when they turned 18 all the way til the events of 0 where they are both pretty good in body tone. Then after 0 they probably go again to get even stronger. Kiwami 1 sees nishiki try to get to the top so he likely goes a 3rd time to beat kiryu in terms of strength and kiryu was only limited to the prison gym which he would only be able to use at specific times hence why he sucks after getting out of jail. Luckily majima is there to put him back in shape

I think Metal Gear does a decent job of making characters not super ridiculously buff. Big Boss, Snake, Raiden aren't really that jacked, although Kojima went overboard with Old Ocelot in MGS4, he was way too jacked. It is actually kinda distracting in certain games, for example in Yakusa Kiwami 1, Shimano is a fat dude but then he takes off his clothes and he suddenly looks like E. Honda now.

It's just something funny that makes me laugh every time a character in Yakuza takes off their shirts, they are always jacked to the core.
