Read the guide.
I just recently started playing this game; I'm using a DS4.
Since I've started playing not once did I look at the controller config for this game up until recently.
Yesterday, I decided to change the light intensity on my DS4, and likely I mucked around with a few other settings when I was there.
Started the game after this, and was totally jarred by being prompted with XBox controller buttons. I was going crazy because I wasn't sure if it was always the case that there are only XBox button prompts, or if before I started playing with these settings there actually were native DS4 button prompts and something has changed.
It turns out my memory was correct and that there were DS4 button prompts earlier (no modding done at all).
Here's what I did to get the native DS4 button prompts back (absolutely NO modding required):
BIG PICTURE>CONTROLLER SETTINGS> DISABLE PLAYSTATION CONFIGURATION SUPPORT
I'm using the official DS4 dongle but this might also help those using Bluetooth. When I mucked around with the DS4 light intensity I probably enabled the PS config support setting without realising.
In my case I'm using the official dongle, so perhaps the solution I mentioned won't work if your just using the DS4 and bluetooth.
If you've just tried the DS4 and bluetooth with no luck have you also tried testing using a USB cable?
What's interesting is that the person who recommended I try the instructions above was actually only using the DS4 and Bluetooth I believe (no DS4 dongle).
One other thing you can try (assuming you're using Windows) is go to Control Panel>Devices and Printers>Dual Shock 4. Right Click on this and select "Game Controller Settings" then select Dualshock 4, click Properties button, then on the Settings tab click "reset to default". That's help me when I've had issues with other games.
Give that a try and see what happens. You shouldn't need the DS4Windows tool at all.
See if you can connect the controller using the instructions at the bottom of this thread.
