FWIW, wrt Clan Creator, my understanding is that the DLC for that are basically overpowered characters for steamrolling through it.

I went through the main Clan Creator missions and a few of the optional missions (of equal or lower rating than the main missions that were next in line) without the DLC characters, following a guide's suggested team composition, and without much grinding; and completed them all first try.
IOW, they're balanced so that you're not really expected to buy the DLC.

You do need to complete the Clan Creator story missions if you want to unlock one of the Colosseum bouts. If you end up hating Clan Creator but really want to do all the Colosseum bouts, maybe then and only then consider it.
yeah it nukes tf out of the clan creator game. although I disliked that game and I got the dlc for free for pre-ordering, it probably shaves off 5-6 hours of grinding in it. It's not a bad game, but it's not great either.

Clan creator was easy enough with the in-game characters, DLC with SSR cards would ruing all the fun at all and make it a boring repetetive experience mostly likely.
I have not hired any characters, only won some Coliseum tournaments and finished side quests. Yuya, Komaki and some other dudes were more than enough to clear this mini game along with reward cards for the story missions.

Unlike Clan creator I had to hire as many hostesses as possible for Cabaret Club, you can never have too many of them especially early on.
