The time limit isn't that of an issue, you'll usually die first if not careful, especially on the big spells.
About the oneshots, yeah that happens, but only when you're not prepared (there are ways to block with skills, passives, items etc.) and party composition actually means something, it's the 4th difficulty mod, it's supposed to be hard.
anything hard or below is far too easy, while expert is tedious because the AI is so bad and constantly dies.
it puts your optimized setup to the test while not placing the burden of awful AI's on you.
the time limit is really a non-factor, if you know what you are doing and not intentionally stalling all bosses will die well before the time is up. the only real reason for the time limit to be there is so you cant stall on purpose and have your AI do everything for you(since they cant die)
Actually I guess I can just not use any of the ng+ advantages and slowly implement stuff if I feel I can't succeed without it.
The no future difficulty is balanced around having several NG+ on the save with a lot of stuff, including having lv 99 chars. It's not going to be easy. They didn't lock it behind NG+ by accident. For those who don't know, in NG+ if you don't pick the chars you picked in the previous playthough, you get the chain abilities of the classes you picked for them (and unlocked through leveling up), so if you have a build in mind for the no future revolving on several class chain abilities, you need to pick the corresponding chars on the first playthrough.
Like for example, Angela Light class 4 have a chain ability that does +30% damage against bosses, so if she's not going to be in your no future party, you might want to bring her in the first playthrough to get the passive and give it to your heavy hitter char (like kevin).
Remember to stockpile items to carry over. They help a lot.
