With the first class change, you'll get more spells for every characters (with the exception of dark kevin).
Light charlotte will get some elemental weapon buffs and some light spells. Dark charlotte will get summons.
Light kevin will get the heal spell and a self buff. Dark kevin gets nothing (it's a pure martial class that relies on combos). Kevin overall is the char that gets the least spells in the game (dark versions eventually get only 1 buff spell midgame and light versions get 2 buffs + the heal spell).
Light hawk gets some luna and dryad spells as well as traps (which are the spell version of items like arrows and spears etc.). Dark hawk gets ninja elemental debuffs and the shuriken spell.
When the game mentioned to train for special skills, it mostly meant for ability skills such as Lucky Find, Strudy, recovery, and class specific active attacks. Its on the training tab on the menu after you pause the game outside of battle.
Totally different from Secret of Mana. Overall its about experimenting various class composition.
