Just figured if you stick leaf saber on Kevin himself, he could spam those little heals.

Bathrobe Rat, yeah, I just this moment finished what I decided will be my last run of the game with Kevin, having gone Dark-Light. I specifically went Dark-Light for Fortitude III, because I was using Charlotte as a Saber buffer (Light-Dark) w/ Attack Saber II and had Fortitude I from a NG+ chain skill. I also had Hawkeye (Dark-Dark, but it didn't really matter) solely to lower boss defense with his lightning ninjutsu.

Dark-Light Kevin obliterated most the benevodons in under 30 seconds, while conveniently being invincible for about a third of the duration of each boss fight. And that was while underleveled (I stop fighting trash mobs entirely and just boss rush the rest of the game right after achieving level 38) and without class 3 item seed equipment. I also avoided using the NG+ Bond skills for balance reasons.

Note that I used Cheat Engine to reset my levels to 1 at the start of each NG+, so I could, you know, actually enjoy the playthrough.

So, yes, I greatly enjoyed Dark-Light Kevin. Dark-Dark wouldn't have been as effective in taking advantage of the Sabers, even if it would have granted me that crit buff, and I went in to this playthrough knowing I wanted to build around Sabers.

My first play through I did Fatal Fist Kevin as my main character who I controlled most of the time doing the under 30% health conflag thing. It was damn powerful... but as mentioned he's fairly boring after awhile.

uh, I started a new team and kevin is pretty fun honeslty... I went dark for my run with him. and he is a dmg beast (at night too) but his combos are nice and do aoe dmg. But he is a bit more boring but.. I mean, least popular meh' Play who you like imo.. that is what makes this game so good.

I planned to do Kevin as L/L because it looked fun to spam class strikes, even if his T3 seems lackluster. Pressure point seems handy if you don't already have an attack up buffer (which my comp wouldn't) and to generate CS. He can debuff def fairly reliably and automatically with broken lines, and his damage seems pretty respectable. Heal would probably never be used, while nature aura would be used quite a bit

It seems like a more fun version to play than D/D just because of the CS spam, while D/D just seems to endlessly mash combo's

But I am still before the first mana stone on this playthrough, so if a good enough case can be made for a different Kevin build I'd be down to hear it
If you don't have an attack up buffer? There's only one in the game that can give it to anyone else, and she has to be on Star Lancer job to really remove the value of Kevin's doing it for himself. Kevin basically can go through dungeon using Pressure Point every fight and not run out of mana. Reisz will, and especially if she casts on multiple people (which is also slow). Unless Reisz has Star Lancer multitarget on this, Pressure Point is still a valuable skill. Even then, Kevin still has a lot of CS gained by using stat ups (both Pressure Point and Nature's Aura). "Kevin's damage is respectable" -- Kevin's damage in all of his light classes (nighttime, no Pressure Point) is higher than Duran's for all choices except Edelfrei.

Kevin's light and dark classes both spam CS very well. Dark path relies on taking damage to earn CS back. Light path relies on passive regen of CS, Stat Boosts, and healing to get CS quickly. They both can have Kevin using substantial CS every fight and always having more ready.

Very often i just don't use CS because it's not needed. Then i hit a speed bump and i don't actually use for 2-5 minutes into the fight.

Why should they nerf something in a casual, non-competitive offline game like this?

Because Nerf Beggars are a loud bunch.

Kevin was my first character I finished the game with lol I do agree that he doesn't have a lot of skills and he basically spams basic attack and heavy attack but when you put CS gauge skills ( like recovery and 35 % skill saving ) then in my opinion he has the most damage out of all melee classes. I shreded bosses in a matter of seconds 3-5 K damage for 1 long combo is no joke... sure Angela can out damage him but Angela is broken if you ask me lol...

I actually preferred Kevin over the first guy with red hair since the DPS is higher ( albeit the knight has stronger single heavy attack than Kevin ).

My least favorites are Hawkeye and Charlotte... ( well Charlotte at least can keep the WHOLE TEAM alive... so she is actually useful but her attacks and CS attacks are... eh... not impressive )

Hrm. You dont need charlotte in this remake. you dont need even a healer...

In the original I chose Hawkeye, Riesz, and Angela for my first run (what a way to accidentally punish myself since if you don't know the game not having a healer can be rough). I didn't even know about Kevin at first. This is despite absolutely loving anthropomorphic animals.

It may be less that people dislike Kevin than they like what the character select screen shows about the other five.

I don't actually hate Kevin so much anymore.

It needed a lot of breaking in though. You really have to use his Class Strikes. If you go light path, you get CS skills in spirit. A bit of STR gets you "under 30% health" bonus dmg ability. Since you control Kevin, most likely, you can heal as needed if you get too low.
