Dark-Light Kevin obliterated most the benevodons in under 30 seconds, while conveniently being invincible for about a third of the duration of each boss fight. And that was while underleveled (I stop fighting trash mobs entirely and just boss rush the rest of the game right after achieving level 38) and without class 3 item seed equipment. I also avoided using the NG+ Bond skills for balance reasons.
Note that I used Cheat Engine to reset my levels to 1 at the start of each NG+, so I could, you know, actually enjoy the playthrough.
So, yes, I greatly enjoyed Dark-Light Kevin. Dark-Dark wouldn't have been as effective in taking advantage of the Sabers, even if it would have granted me that crit buff, and I went in to this playthrough knowing I wanted to build around Sabers.
Kevin's light and dark classes both spam CS very well. Dark path relies on taking damage to earn CS back. Light path relies on passive regen of CS, Stat Boosts, and healing to get CS quickly. They both can have Kevin using substantial CS every fight and always having more ready.
Why should they nerf something in a casual, non-competitive offline game like this?
Because Nerf Beggars are a loud bunch.
Kevin was my first character I finished the game with lol I do agree that he doesn't have a lot of skills and he basically spams basic attack and heavy attack but when you put CS gauge skills ( like recovery and 35 % skill saving ) then in my opinion he has the most damage out of all melee classes. I shreded bosses in a matter of seconds 3-5 K damage for 1 long combo is no joke... sure Angela can out damage him but Angela is broken if you ask me lol...
I actually preferred Kevin over the first guy with red hair since the DPS is higher ( albeit the knight has stronger single heavy attack than Kevin ).
My least favorites are Hawkeye and Charlotte... ( well Charlotte at least can keep the WHOLE TEAM alive... so she is actually useful but her attacks and CS attacks are... eh... not impressive )
Hrm. You dont need charlotte in this remake. you dont need even a healer...
It may be less that people dislike Kevin than they like what the character select screen shows about the other five.
It needed a lot of breaking in though. You really have to use his Class Strikes. If you go light path, you get CS skills in spirit. A bit of STR gets you "under 30% health" bonus dmg ability. Since you control Kevin, most likely, you can heal as needed if you get too low.
