Because magic was so boring to use, as it freeze the screen, need to go on menu to choose magic etc ...
But now, on Trials of Mana, It was so fun to play Angela, I love her magic spells, she is pretty and because of "EEEEEEE" ! I think I like more Angela now :D
Remake: Angela. She wrecks everything, has the best voice acting imo, and she's easy on the eyes. Such a change from the original game too, where she was probably the least useful party member.
1-Kevin always been my favorite. He and the beastmen are is basicaly werewolf klingons. And its so badass to play as a guy who turns into a werewolf.
2-Riesz, cuz i love the concept of amazon. And green color.
3-Angela, she's hot.
4-Hawkeye. The guy is Aladin + Han Solo + Vega.
5-Duran. I like his mane, also, I'm a Duran Duran fan.
6-Charlotte. She's annoying, and is a loli. Both aren't my thing.
My current team is Riesz/Hawkeye/Angela, and yeah, Angela is wrecking face pretty hard. I feel like Hawkeye was a lot better in the original, but with Angela, it is like night and day, even her melee feels stronger?
All her incidental lines at the beginning and end of battle, or in shops, are all about complimenting her team or how certain purchases serve useful to the unit's success. One of my favourite lines is this little thing she says when you buy some new gear for her: "Well, I HAD wanted this..." It's like she would never let herself buy something that was just for her, but if another character repeatedly insisted that she accept it, only then would she admit that she secretly wanted it all along. I love this line, because it makes you wonder just how deep this goes, and how many feelings Riesz is hiding from others, just to be a trooper and be strong for everyone else.
Mechanically, she's also fantastic -- at least on the path I took her on. She has tons of abilities that benefit the whole party, enhancing stats of all kinds or healing everybody when she does a Class Strike. Riesz is absolutely the "Best Girl" of Trials of Mana!
Angela is also awesome though, for basically the opposite reasons. She is a selfish, self-centered, materialistic, spoiled whiner who only ever talks about what she wants and how everything isn't how she would like it to be. If she were a person in real life, I would hate her, but as an RPG character it's a fun contrast to have around. Her voice actor did a great job getting her personality across, too!
My main complaint with her though, is that her story kind of sucks. She's so focused on getting her mother's approval, even after her mom openly wants to sacrifice her life. At least in my playthrough, Angela never bothers to reflect on the morality of this idea, and never realizes that her mom's sick plans are even bad. She just wants to prove she can do magic, so she can worm her way into her mother's approval? I would have liked to see more depth of character than that.
I agree with everything you said, that's also how I feel about her character, and those are the same conclusions that I came to about her personality/etc myself. I'd like to mark this as the answer for being such a detailed response, but that would totally feel like character bias.
Going to be trying the other 3 next play though so no comment on them yet.
Out of the six he's the only one who has the most developed story AND gets the most character development... at least in my eyes
- Best voiceover as main character.
- Best storyline and bosses.
- As Rietz, can fit into absolutely everything. He can be a buffing crit machine with hard to get buffs, a mini Angela that has access to multiple elements and Wood and hits hard physically, an all target debuffer or a single target debuffer that can death-melt regular encounters and still hits hard vs bosses.
- Can be good for both player and AI due to the Enigma passives reducing his aggro.
When in doubt, Hawkeye.
2nd place goes to Charlotte because it's my favorite storyline, also I think her power attack is really easy and fast to abuse on normal enemies, carried the hell out of my first team especially with Recoil. Sadly I think the value of her as a pure healer goes down in this game due to how you get so many items now. I did like her team buff elemental attacks though in pure light path.
For personality, Riesz. Because she's demure, and has floral accents on some of her costumes.
I do have to admit, Hawkeye has a lot of utility potential. He's just performing a lot worse in this version than I remembered him doing (maybe it's my fuzzy memory).
Umm, doesn't one of Charlotte's Light classes get MT Sabers? And doesn't her Dark path get passive AND active debuffs? Yeah, toooootally only heals. Charlotte has a LOT of potential, but from what I've seen of the AI, how much you get out of her depends on how willing you are to micromanage her.
