Can't decide on first team...

I'm sure about Liesz (Starlancer for MT buffs) & Kevin (Final Light class to be decided) , but the third member, I'm not so sure about.
Either I'd use Charlotte, because I like the crutch of MT Healing and Shaman is a pretty mean caster. However, she's pretty useless in the filler battles and I'm not yet sold on her voice acting...

So, the choice: how feasible would it be to have Duran as a Lord as a third member?

When u plan is going light way with Kevin, then u don't need Charlie to heal your group. Kevin can heal.

Pick charlotte, the only character you'll ever need

Light Kevin is healer, don't need Carlie as another healer and definitely don't need Duran as a 3rd. Make Duran go dark or get dark Hawk for debuffs.

Charlotte route > change to light class > Bishop in 3rd class > get turn undead = easy win

I will play with Duran (totally dark), Kevin (totally light) and Hawk (totally dark) in my first run. In my second run I will play with 3 ladies... But don't know wich way.

some people recommended that we should pair 1 companion that have same main villain as your main character, so we can get more stories about them.
about who are they pair with:
Duran + Angela
Hawkeye + Riesz
Kevin + Charlotte

if you do roll Charlotte go dark with Kevin for more dmg since Carlie is a better healer anyways on any of her classes, and roll Necromancer on her for Black Curse which is an all stat debuff which is great for bosses or one of her light classes for elemental sabers which have great synargy with a melee focussed group like Kev and Riesz. dw, chawwotte is a great healer in ANY of her classes so it's fine no matter which tactic you pick on her

I'm going dark kevin for beastly damage, lise light for single target buffs, and charlotte for heals and ST sabers. i wouldn't suggest going kevin light with light duran or charlotte, you don't need that much healing. people also suggest in old gameFAQs to stick with either all single target or all multi target buffs/debuffs to make the flow of combat easier. we'll see how this translates to the new version... the spells should all still be the same.

Star Lancer, Necromancer, Magus is an all female party. it plays heavily on magic damage, which is something i haven't tried yet.

i would suggest running Lise as whichever light one gives her multi target stat ups, then pick whichever of charlotte's dark classes and whichever one of angela's classes you like the spells of.

Hawkeye (Ninja Master) goes amazingly well with Riesz (Star Lancer). You will have access to screen-wide stat down and stat up.

Why would I care about screenwide stat downs? If there's more than 1 enemy, it's a bunch of rabble who you can defeat without stat downs, no?
Admittedly, I am leaning more and more toward Duran or Hawk. I'm just in doubt whether or not I might cut it with the lesser healing.
Barring that: how "useless" is Sage, really? The multi-cast Sabers seem pretty good if I use Liesz & Kevin and then boost everyone's attack power with Liesz.

Hawk's screenwide stat downs also double as damaging magic spells, albeit not as strong as some others. You could go dark-dark with Hawk and get single target debuffs for bosses while also being a stronger fighter than dark-light. (Not sure how the 3rd class will factor in)

ohh i dunno...i can recall some areas with some very nasty enemies who were more dangerous than most bosses (the ninjas in dark cave for example...) XD not sure if they are in this one but yeah.. powering them all down at once did work great on those and deffo made your life a lot easier ^_^ any tactic has it's uses. it just depends on what you want in your team.

same story for the sage sabers: it can work though there are quite some cases where bosses and/or enemies dispell them right away and you do miss out on Necromancer's black curse, which is quite good vs bosses all the times. but that doesn't mean you cannot use them. heck in other cases they actually are great, for example vs bosses that keep casting sabers onto your party which heal the boss instead of doing dmg (for example if Xan Bie would cast fire sabers onto your team)

there are team combos which are broken but any of them can work if you know what you're doing :) just pick the team you like and enjoy the game i say.
