[spoiler] The English translation is really disappointing!!!

One of the cutest scenes in the game where Hawkeye kiss Riese have really been destroyed by the awkward and senseless English translation.


[Hawkeye] So please, if you find Belladonna, don't kill her! Capture her instead. I-I know you don't owe me anything, but...

[Riesz] Understood. I am the princess of Laurent, Riesz. Though I dearly wish for justice for the death of my father, I will not allow an innocent girl to die in return.

[Hawkeye] Thank you, Your Highness! Oh man, I could kiss you!

[Riesz] Huh!?

Seriously, what the hell?! Is that the best they can do? "Oh man, I could kiss you!" Hawkeye sounds like a dumb blockhead instead of the handsome lady-killer he is.

What did you seriously expect? This is what he says in the fan translation:

Hawk: "Yeah! I knew you wouldn't! Aw... I just want to KISS you!"

Would you have been happier if he had said, "Hey babe, you've got a nice spear, wanna see mine?"

Also, whoever said the English dub is garbage, I'd take it over the Japanese voices any day. High-pitched overacting really comes off unnatural, and Lise/Riesz is the leader of an Amazon army, not some swooning airhead.

I didn't say the English dub is garbage. I said the English translation is garbage. No comment about the English voice dubbing since I never listen to them anyway.

You obviously don't work in the translation / localization field. That is a case of poor translation that really destroy a nice scene in the story. Like I said, awkward, and senseless. The fan-translation, while being awkward as well, at least make an attempt to show-off Hawkeye flirting nature.

Never mind, it's just my opinion anyways. However there really is something wrong with the English localization team with a bunch of poor translations, sometimes outright WRONG MEANING.

For example, original Japanese のアイコンが付いているアビリティは、リンクアビリティ。習得した本人以外のキャラクターも装備することができる。 which should generally means Ability with this icon are Chain Abilities. They are abilities that not only the character who learnt them but other characters can also equip them.

And this is our great translation Abilities with the <icon_linkability> icon next to them are Chain Abilities. When equipped, these abilities will affect other party members in addition to the player character. You can actually see this while playing the demo, just to make sure I'm not making this up.

Great, just great. And that's the hint / guide for players. While dialogues can be a little differ and nobody will notice, hints and explanations for mechanic of the game should NEVER BE WRONG.

P/s : not really related, but one of Riese's charming points is the contrast between her strong side (leader of Amazon, confident and strong-willed) and her innocent side (girly, "swooning airhead" because yes, Hawkeye really make her swoon XD). So with that said, I think the Japanese dub is really good.

Nah, English is not my own language. I'm currently trying to translate the game into mine ^^ That's why I see a bunch of translation errors and mistakes when comparing the original Japanese texts and the English texts.

But I can understand why some people hates their own languages, I was the same in the past. We call it youthful ignorance / stupidity.
