Customizaton and Equipment Variety
I just played the demo, it's really cool. It's identical to the original. However, it appears that the game inherited some flaws from the original. In my opinion, one of the game's huge drawnbacks is precisely the little variety of equipment and zero customization. You arrive in a city, go to the store, buy the only weapon your character can use, do the same for the helmet, armor and accessory. Repeat for the other characters. In the next city, rinse and repeat, until the end of the game. That's boring. No changes to the character's appearance or item effects, at all. In addition, it would be interesting to be able to use other types of weapons, such as a morning star with Duran, for example. Would anyone know if the final version will feature a better variety of items and equipment? I guess not, but I'm just asking.

After playing the Sin of Mana hardtype mod for Seiken Densetsu 3 SNES, I was hoping for the equipment to have special properties, rather than having the next set of equipment automatically surpass the previous set. Another annoying but unique feature that is present in the original game but missing in the remake demo is the treasure chest trap wheels.

Yes, i was expecting something like that. Among other things...

Even considering the limitations for it's time, some aspects could have been better. 25 years later, there is no excuse.

Actually, there is. Those with nostalgia goggles think the original game was perfect (even though it had tons of flaws, such as bugs and major balance problems), and want nothing changed about the original game, so that's why the devs may be hesitating to change things unless they're sure that even most of the hardcore fans will enjoy the changes.

Fair point, but I'm pretty sure there's a way to add some features without changing the original concept.

I'm already glad they added the passive skill stuff, and the fact that you can get them by talking to other people is great to.

Weapons and armors giving you passives to add to the pool would have been a great idea too I think.

Your weapon changes, and your characters appearance will change when your class does.

Yeah, just noticed that. Anyways, just like the original, seems that you don't have any choice but to pick the next set at the next shop.

For me this also was a problem with the original game. However this has been partially fixed by the new system of item seeds. You should remember that in the original game after like each battle, a chest laid on the ground and was usually doing trap damage to your characters and contained (often worthless) consumables.

The new seed system works the following way. You find seeds randomly after battles. But in addition to consumables they contain accessories or permanent stat boosters. There are also more consumables for instance one that raises XP, money or loot drop after defeating an enemy.

Now here comes the good part. In addition to these items you build up a Seed Level when planting these. Each new level ups the chances of enemies dropping item seeds as well as the chance to grow rare items from seeds, which starts at around 5% (tested).

For example I found a Ring that prevents one of the status effects after I planted one of the seeds as well as a Potion that permanently improves base SPRT by 1 and another potion that improves base MP by 2.

Since you start at Item Seed level 1 you only have a low chance to get the good stuff but I think after a couple of hours you start to receive more items which makes purchasing gear from Merchants less repetitive than in the original game.

In the character menu there is a section to change their appearance so I'm hoping we get more of this at release or later on. Hopefully it's not just cycling between the appearance of the different classes.

That's good to know. Thanks for the information.
