Trials of Mana

Trials of Mana

View Stats:
9/10 :) my opinions and a few bugs
Little cons:
- The cutscenes don't have the quality you would expect from a 50€ 2020 game. It's not terrible though, but still.
- Manual camera almost all of the time. It doesn't feel good, I even ended up with a little motion sickness.
- The button to run. I would change it to L2/R2, and then changing characters with the L3 button.
- No option to leave the game (at least in the demo!). Alt+f4 works alright, except in Big picture mode :)
- Too much fan service (need to show side "breasts" for some reason)

And now, the many PROs:
- The remake music is the best. Also, you have the old SNES OST, which I've loved for many years (♥ Hiroki Kikuta!) but I absolutely enjoyed the new versions.
- The combat is really fast and fluid! It felt it was a lot easier than the original, more like Secret of Mana or even Terranigma! Secret of Mana/SD2 was more action oriented and Trials of Mana/SD3 was more RPG oriented. In Trials of Mana Remake it's easy to see that it's a lot more action oriented than SD3, and after playing the demo I can say it's totally fine :)
- Graphics: It's obvious that the main target platform of this game was Nintendo Switch, so you won't see a lot of illumination effects or high polygon models, but still the world, the characters and the art is really beautiful. I loved it!

And now... my wishes!
- 3 player local mode with a fixed camera... I'm sure it can be done :)

I was quite disappointed with Square Enix after Secret of Mana Remake, but I can see they really gave their best in Trials of Mana Remake, even if it's a smaller production (in budget and in time) than the FF series.

yes, there is, press tab to open char page, press R ( I think, to open pause page), click exit to main menu, press esc in main menu / press start screen. but yeah, too much to do just to exit the game lol :lunar2019laughingpig: I hope they adding binding to esc key for exit to main menu / press start. :steambored:

Camera works fine with a mouse, I seem to be seeing this same complaint with the pad everywhere though. In a weird reverse situation this might be the first time that we have a game-port like this that actually feels better on K+M :O

I seem to remember a button from the Tab status screen where you can bring up all the options/quit game/load game etc.

Please show us on the doll where the Trials of Mana demo hurt you. Everything is going to be alright ssshhh.

He/her/whatever complained about fan service. I disqualify him as a WEEB. One of my biggest annoyance about reviewers. Don't like fan service then don't buy it, stop trying to change games.

As a long time Seiken Densetsu 3 fan, I'm really enjoying the combat, as well. The game engine is overall quite nice ― far better than a remake of this calibre, and from Square Enix, no less. However, that English voice cast... Just, yikes. Ear cancer for days.
Its always the same. We Japanese like foreign languages. The rest likes the Japanese, but doesn't understand a single word or phrase, just relay on crappy fan translations, where the meaning isn't really picked up. Enjoy the English voices, they are far more better, believe me.

I forgot to say that I used Japanese voices. I'm not sure if they're better than the English ones, but I think it was quite good.

I played again this morning a little more and I'm absolutely getting it on day one.

Hopefully they'll add a 3 player mode sometime in the future!

I agree. Using the joystick for running like this is the best way to create a drift issue on your gamepad. I have already replaced a lot of mine because of this.

Source please.

These are point of views. I loved english before I even know the words meaning, now I avoid playing games in this language as much as I can. Because it no more sounds exotic to me and all the magic feeling is no more. I also stopped learning Japanese for this reason, before it was too late. That's why I play the game in Japanese after have played some times in english (default setting).

However I have already read a couple of gamesites reviews that said that voice acting and cutscenes are not really great additions in ToM. I didn't care myself maybe because of the huge nostalgic feeling I had, but maybe I will notice the same thing after another playtrough.

about the dash, isn´t clicking L3 to sprint like standard in ..alot of games now? it´s sure is in many shooters, you know you don´t have to hold it right? it´s a toggle.click once

BUT if it´s still bothers you just use the steam config and swap the left trigger and shoulder button of your choice funtions in there. Game will give you the wrong prompts but it should work as long as you remember you swapped the buttons around.
That works for most games.

*added* I had to test to make sure, yepp just go into steam overlay gamepad settings and change buttons in there and it works. (honestly I know of just ONE game that would override settings in there so if you ever don´t like a games control schemes and the options to change are not satisfactory...go into steam gamepad settings..it´s all there)

I could make a gamepad profile if you need it..but if you can figure out how to import a profile you can swap two buttons around I wager.

You can change the button Dash is mapped to in the game's options itself as well. Then it'll adjust accordingly. I swapped L3 with R3 in there.

yeah but it wouldn´t let you switch dash to R2 I think just between L3 and R3 I think? otherwise I don´t even see the issue to begin with.
Barret Wallace Mar 20, 2020 @ 9:53am
Well then, if it can be remapped, ignore that issue 😅

They did a good job, that's the overall meaning of my comment :)
