No multiplayer?
The store page is listing this game as a single player game. But that has to be a mistake, right? RIGHT??

The best thing about "Secret of Mana" and "Trials of Mana" has always been that you could experience them together with your friends. That's why it would be completely inasne to remove this key feature... There are more than enough single player JRPGs out there already. But a JRPG that you can play with several people together? That's amazing!

So.. please tell me I'm misunderstandig something.. This HAS to be multiplayer, right? D:

The only thing that makes no sense is your argument.

You either never played the first game which also supported multiplayer or you never had any friends to play with.
Whether or not it's niche in your eyes is not of importance.
Fact is that it's a feature that's missing in the remake.

Agreed. The people that complain about this clearly never played the original game with friends before and probably prefer single player anyways. Multiplayer gameplay WAS and STILL IS a core feature of the original Seiken Densetsu 3 (as even the collection of mana version supports 2 players) so not having it in the remake is a big loss for those that loved playing the classic SNES multiplayer RPG's like Secret of Evermore, Seiken Densetsu 2 & 3, and others with friends.
That one feature took an already great game and made is even more enjoyable.

Also, I'm just going to add this from a previous post:

"So this isn't in an article but rather something that was mentioned in one of the E3 streams with the devs:

They tried to faithfully respect the battle system of the original...
But it wasn't good enough and didn't fit the new visuals.

They added combos and aerial attacks, instant magic and ways to evade

They want skillful players to be able to overcome battles by playing well but want to allow players that struggle to get an easier time by leveling up a bit

Also, no multiplayer.

Cant work with the new systems locally and no online planned.

But they said they made up for it by making the switching seamless and improved.

To clarify: The Collection of Mana's (SNES) version of Seiken Densetsu 3 (Trial of Mana) that's on the Nintendo Switch will still have multiplayer for up to 2 people for but the remake will not on any platform."

Maybe they will, but they're rebooting the series as more of a single player game to appeal to a more broad western style. They gave us the original because of these changes.
If that's the case they really need to release the Mana collection for steam
Having said that even if they added multiplayer I'd love the option of having the Mana Collection

SEIKEN DENSETSU 3 has multiplayer, if TRIAL OF MANA has not this CORE feature his inner essence, cannot be the true remake, it will be a fail copy. Another HUGE LOSS for SQUARE-ENIX, bad decisions everywhere.
We should wait for some team to crack the game and to have the REAL experience.

It was an offline coop, not an online mmo...

That's the multiplayer that everyone is referring to. Couch Co-op multiplayer.

I'm very sad about the couch co-op not being implemented. While it's absolutely their choice I have to admit that it is no longer a new and unknown feature. Even with the change of how the combat works now there have been many new solutions invented to have couch co-op that could be used.
This feature made it stand out from the myriad of other RPGs. Taking it out makes it a little bit more generic now. As somebody who really loves couch co-op I have been very disappointed with how many games have started solely relying on online co-op (demanding a household to have multiples of the same console and game). Taking it out of a game that already had it is quite frustrating.
It doesn't help that the original is only available on the Switch as part of a bundle. I already have number 2, twice, and am yet to buy the bundle because I only want it for 3 (Trials).

I mean the remake of Secret of Mana had mutliplayer (couch coop that is).

I highly doubt Square Enix is going to stray from that. I'd imagine it's either being worked on, so they don't want to announce it due to people screaming "False advertisement" upon pre-purchasing the game. I mean people shouldn't actually be Pre-Ordering it almost 9 months early.

That's just plain stupidity.

Either or, I've beat these games multiple times, co-op, and Solo, both on Emulators, and the Orignal Snes + the remake of Secret of Mana.

I'm dying to see how their new 3D twist of the Trials of mana will be. That being said, that might be the issue the game would NOT have multiplayer. Again, they "Could" be working on trying to fit in multiplayer to try and make it more like Star Ocean, or "Tales" kind of gameplay. Who knows. Just have to wait another "Almost 9 months".

The 3D-aspect of the game is one of the primary reasons why this version doesn't have co-op, according to the devs. They're not putting it in (which was already explained by the devs during E3.)

Yeah, no multiplayer (Either couch co-op or online co-op) is a hard no for me. Back when the original game was fan translated for emulators the fun of it was the multiplayer co-op aspect. No idea why Square thought this was a good idea... it's like they took Hiroshi Yamauchi's quote on RPGs seriously or something.

I just found out about this today (I'm slow). This is my favorite SNES game *because* it's multiplayer. Now that I've learned the remake won't be, I'll be passing on it. At least I had three months of thinking I'd get to play an awesome game.

I would be really surprised if they don't change their mind or add a multiplayer option after launch.
There's just no reason not to do it and too many people wanting it.

It wouldn't be split-screen, though. It would need to be each player in its own computer.

I'm not really sure why is this a problem, yes all the others had(Aside from the first game, but that one was alien. Which is why I vastly prefer the Sword of Mana remake. Nostalgia be damned Sword of Mana is the better version, but I digress).
However It was never a big deal, Multiplayer was only a thing when you managed to find another character, otherwise the second player would be forced to watch the 1st player to play through the story until they found the other party members. Moreover it's not everyday that you have someone else to play with, which would force you to play by yourself anyway. And yes, online play would fix that, but that would present it's own problems.

So yeah if they can ensure that the game will be good, I can easily accept for this feature to be missing. You guys(by this I mean the people complaining excessively, not necessarily you Sabishi) give far too much importance to classic features without considering the package as a whole.

It's like Square actively tries to ♥♥♥♥ up somewhere. "Mmmh this is too perfect, where can we screw it up for the fans?"

Episodic content for FF VII remake
Subpar effort for SOM remake
No multiplayer for SD3

lol ♥♥♥♥ you Square.

For many the entire reason the SNES Mana games are favorites is because it was one of the few co-op action RPGs of that era. Great memories playing SoM with my brother and friends. A few friends and I still play through SoM and SD3 every few years. The Co-Op makes it hold up. Without it you are reminded it is a comically lame story, few actual rpg mechanics (gear, levels), and a lot of button spam. Without multi-player this is just not worth playing. This is coming from someone who live streams several hundred hours of SoM and SD3 plays.

They could easily add split screen or lan co-op.
