Does the game launch in d3d11 by default or do we have to add the launch line?
Out of curiosity, is there a benefit to launching in DirectX 12?

By default!

Only if other's fail. Honestly, it's the worst at this point, but just in case.
Is there more work being done to integrate DirectX 12 in the game? It would be useful for taking advantage of modern hardware, though it is true that DirectX 11 is generally more stable.

Not at the moment as we are stuck with what the engine vendor provides.
How do you enable -force-vulkan or -force-d3d12 ? The option is greyed out and says to ** restart the game to change graphic API ** but don't seem to be able to ?

Wondering since having some crashing and low FPS issue when starting and reloading saves. From another post here it might be due to the game runs on Unity but thought if I can, see if changing to Vulkan or DirectX 12 would solve it. Just can't seem to figure out how to change it ?

Here is the link to the other thread that more or less describes my problem: https://steamcommunity.com/app/921800/discussions/0/2949250944138912127/#c4015478340396318592

Right-click on the game in Steam library and choose Properties.
In General there will be a launch options label in there: paste -force-vulkan key into it.

Thanks ! I tried both Vulcan and DX12, both let it load up to the Continue screen but after that they both crashed so neither helped with my little problem. lol
If this is windows, it's likely that the directx 12 or vulkan implementation is unstable. Unity shouldn't be the problem on a decent computer. Perhaps you may share your specs, or try out different options in the graphics settings. Knowing the specs might help with learning what setups the devs should optimize for.

Sure, I can do that.

Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus Master rev 1.1, Bios F34, Chipset Drivers 3.09.01.140
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
Graphics Card: Saphhire Radeon RX 6900 XT Nitro+, have tried the last two drivers.
Memory: 4 sticks of Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 8GB 3000MHz, DDR4, CL15 CMK16GX4M2B3000C15
C Drive: WB Blue SN550 NVMe SSD (But Steam is on a 4TB HDD Toshiba X300 Performance)
PSU: EVGA SuperNova 1000 G2
Monitor: Dell 38" Alienware AW3821DW IPS 21:9

I played around with the graphic settings some as well without any success. I know it might be hard to find the culprit but part from a fresh install I think I done everything I can from my end. Also don't seem to be that many having reported something similar from what I have seen, although I might missed it.

To be honest, as long as it don't crash I can wait the time it takes for the FPS to come back if needing to do a reload. Moving between areas are fine so it's nothing major, just a bit of a pain when you just want to play the game ! Hence had a small hope that maybe Vulcan or DX12 would help but it just made it worse. lol

Ohh and I have no problem with any other games in my library, then again have no clue if any of them using Unity though.

Edit: Forgot to say I have not yet tried the new patch that come out not long ago.

Edit 2: Have now played the game with new patch and it's all the same. Even tried the 4 previous Graphic Drivers and no joy. Also added which monitor I have since I forgot that.
Your rig is pretty good, so I doubt it would be hardware related on your end. The only thing i am not sure of is difference of SSD vs HDD as even the slowest SSD is gonna be faster than the fastest HDD. That could be something else you can try. I run the game on a Samsung Evo 970 plus without any fps related issues. My other place to look at would be uncapped framerate. If you have some for of freesync/g-sync this shouldn't be an issue, but it might be fps loss from having uncapped framerate (game doesn't need high framerate anyway since this isn't a competitive multiplayer). Hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply ! The monitor I'm using can do 144MHz but I have it capped at 60MHz and so is the game. Did that after I couldn't even finish the creation of my character and it helped there.

As for the HDD compared to M.2 SSD I have no clue either. Plan is to buy a larger M.2 SSD at one point but not got around to it yet, hence why still using a HDD. I'll have a look around and see if it is possible to move one game to the M.2 SDD to see if that helps.

On a little sidenote. I tried Desperados III yesterday since it is free to play this weekend on Steam and that game also using Unity from what I understand and had no problem with reloading saves. So yeah, a bit of strange problem but guess that's come with owning a PC ! :steamhappy:

Edit: I moved the game to my C: drive which is the M.2 SSD and there was no difference. Then had a look online what prices was and saw a local shop had a bit of a sale so ended up buying a new M.2 drive for gaming, been thinking it for a while anyway so used this as an excuse !

Reinstalled Steam on new drive and then reinstalled the game as well, nothing else on the drive. But, no difference. Then (as the fool I am) I come to think of something else I not tried. It always been in borderless window, so switched to full screen, and no difference. So switched to bordered window and.. no FPS dips when reloading ! I tired several times but it loaded just fine. So went and changed the size on the bordered window in the settings.json so it fit the window better and should hopefully be alright now. Yet have to play since I only did a quick check, now moving other games over to new drive. lol

Edit 2: alright, this probably going to make a few of you that reading this laugh but I can live with that !

I was asked if it happened with Adaptive Sync on and off. I never thought of turning that setting off in the Radeon Software so I tried it and you know what ? The problem I had is gone ! So, there you go, something simple as switching something from ON to OFF and all good. LOL
Will MOD Support be a thing?

I'm using a very veeery slow hdd (wd smr one 6tb, transfer speed sometimes is around 2-3mb yes, that slow...) and have no issues at all with the game, i have the game and steam installed there.
my rig is: ryzen 5 2600
16gb ram
gtx 970
win 10.

So your disk drive is not the issue for sure, clearly the problem is somewhere else.
In general you don't need an ssd to play games aside from some very very exceptions and it will affect loading times (red dead redemption 2 comes to mind)
