I wish I could give constructive help but yeah...... I just ignored that mechanic.
I also think its worth pointing out they essentially cloned path actions for half the characters and in most cases one character just has a better version. Therion is better than Tressa, except in a rare few cases where an item cannot be stolen and only (typically these are good items) purchased. Ophelia is better than Primrose, she never fails to recruit. Alfyn is better than Cyrus, he never fails to gather info. Lastly Olberic is better than Haanit, he gets to enter a battle and be himself rather than use a terrible limited summon system.
That said, someone over on Reddit threw a fairly easy-to-read list (categorized by zone-level) of captures together which includes effects and power-ratings so if you want to flip through it and see if anything sounds interesting to you, it's a handy resource:

As for Dark's comments I agree with your assessment save one bit - I'm really glad to have Tressa's purchase ability, as there have been plenty of times I'd rather just buy an item outright than waste time with rng. Totally depends on item/circumstances so having the flexibility of both options has been nice. I think they're actually very complimentary skills, too bad they couldn't strike that balance with the other 3 sets. Here's to hoping they get it right in OT2
Yeah i dont disagree. There is nothing wrong with Tressa. Usually if I want to clear a town I use Therion, Tressa, Alfyn and Olberic as my party to gather every thing the town has.
