The thief whit warrior is good too
The dancer as a healer is best healer posible
I'm unsure if by cross classing, you meant going for the antipode of one's character (like making a warrior out of a caster and vice versa), but here were my pre-secret jobs combos:
Cyrus (main): Scholar/Merchant.
Therion (always in party): Thief/Hunter.
Ophelia: Cleric/Dancer.
Olberic: Warrior/Apothecary.
Alfyn: Apothecary/Cleric.
Primrose: Dancer/Scholar.
Tressa: Merchant/Thief.
H'annit: Hunter/Warrior.
Primrose and Tressa were the least useful in that configuration and H'annit I simply don't like her provoke mechanic vs Olberic's challenge.
Post Secret Jobs:
Cyrus: Scholar/Sorcerer.
Therion: Thief/Hunter.
Ophelia: Cleric/Starseer.
Olberic: Warrior/Warmaster.
Alfyn: Apothecary/Cleric.
Primrose: Dancer/Scholar.
Tressa: Merchant/Runelord.
H'annit: Hunter/Warrior.
Tressa becomes very broken against hard bosses, so does Olberic at 1HP with fortitude. Cyrus simply wrecks any random encounter in the entire game and I'm glad he was my main for both story and gameplay performance. Both Ophelia and Alfyn have their pros and cons for healing, Ophelia being a better healer but Alfyn better at controlling status effects. Alfyn can become quite broken if you have items to spare (like against the ultimate boss where you don't care about conserving your items anymore).
Oh RIGHT! Olberic with an axe WOULD be deadly!
And yeah that's what I meant.
I've also made Cyrus a Merchant for those good ol SP saving and charging skills.
But POST SECRET JOBS?! I didn't know that was a thing, but I look forward to discovering them now.
Well they aren't that secret, but perhaps I should have spoiler tagged them. They are jobs that you can't get early because they are guarded by a level 50 boss. Some people do get them at low level by mastering some game mechanics. I got them around level 45 myself.
It is, but also he is so strong with it in boss fights. Since he was my main and I did everyone's chapter 1, then 2, then 3, I had to keep him around all the time. It gives him wind, dark and light too, so it's not all a loss. Not optimal, but god was he strong. Him and Olberic were so strong I had to waste turn to get resistances ID'ed and Therion's item stolen. It's also great to quickly knock the SP on any boss since it ticks 3 times. Cyrus scholar is also good to preserve your SP during the exploration phase.
That said, if he wasn't my main, I think Primrose would really be good as Dancer/Sorcerer imo. She got good m.atk and can self-buff without being as redundant. Once you get a few passives from the secret jobs however, the dancer loses steam since you can basically have Pea---k strut permanently, so I would her mainly as a sorcerer from that point. SP Saver would probably be best during dungeon exploration pre-boss not to churn your SP away.
Ophelia could also work. Therion too with the fire magic boosting sword N dagger.
Thief Ophilia is nice for donating her SP to Primrose since she virtually never runs out of any due to having almost the same support skills as Primrose.
