Save file
Asking if anyone can upload their 100% completion file for weaknesses/chests. I spent 100+ hours on it finished off the checklist and looking at the wall of having to re-check several hundred of both to figure out which 1-5 I missed in both categories.

Alternatively, does anyone have any idea how it is coded in the save file. Spent yesterday looking at the save file in a hex editor trying to determine a way to see what monster I missed. Best guess I could find is they store each weakness found in the save file, but I couldn't determine for which monster as they had 2500 entries. I couldn't determine any info on chest though.

Hi did you manage to get it ? I am having the same issue got all enemy weaknesses and the achievement didn’t unlock for me. My option would be to install the game with gamepass pc to get my xbox save file onto pc when smh mod it or use a 100% steam file

No unfortunately. I haven't been back to this game in awhile. I tried in vain to figure out the hex editor to no avail.

It is weird that there is no tracker for beatiary or chests since they made an achievement for it with how many chests/enemies there are. I didn't find any mods for it either. Since it came out on the switch a lot of the support was for the switch port using a different editor.

It's not wierd, considering it was developed as a Switch game which didn't have achievements. Hopefully the sequal launching on both PC and PS will jabe something.

Mods for the game in general? There's a bunch https://www.nexusmods.com/octopathtraveler/mods/

For this specific issue....yeah there's no real way of doing that I don't think.

What 'support using a different editor' are you talking about?

IIRC the save file on switch is a different format so a lot of the posts about hex editing and the tool used was for that particular file format. AKA not valid to use on the steam version so I didn't find much headway going in that direction. I did find a hex editor but its on my old PC so I don't recall the name of it unfortunately. Some 30 day trial thing and I found a few hex editor reads and tried using that as a base to figure it out but couldn't drill down to figure out which entries I was missing vs which ones I wasn't. As the game saves all the NPC fights in the same spot so finding the specific fights I needed became sifting through hundreds of entries.

You can hex edit the Steam version just fine with the same method as the Switch version, both using 010 Editor and Savefileonline.

Right again I was able to use it...010 sounds familiar...but because of how the data is done I couldn't sift through the thousands of records to determine which ones didn't have the weakness discovered. Because every enemy/npc has all 6 spots for weakness not just what they need unlocked. And it wasn't an easy task to cross reference it with hundreds of entries to see which one was needed.

We are talking about sifting through the entire list manually and seeing which ones are needed. So it wasn't as simple as just finding the ones that didn't have a weakness done. Other issue is that 1/2 the entries in there were NPC fights that don't count towards it. Though you can just exclude any past a certain number as all the NPC ids are after enemies.

But I digress just stating you can hex edit doesn't help me pinpoint which one I missed. I haven't found a post or someone that figured out a good way to filter this. If you have I am all ears. I tried for several days using 010 to sift through it and didn't come up with a good way.(all my progress was on my old computer so can't reference it directly atm)

Ah, I was just talking about the fact that the methods that word on Switch also work for the PC saves. They are close enough to the same that the template for the 010 editor works just fine.

For your specific cicumstances yeah that's annoying. But I have a solution that MIGHT work if you just want the achievement: Try downloading this mod https://www.nexusmods.com/octopathtraveler/mods/5 and then going and hitting the weakness of an enemy that normally has a single weakness )Reptalios for instance, always the first encounter in Northreach area -- weakness in the mod I believe is staff). I'm actually curious to know if this triggers the achivement or not.
