As you know he's captaining a ship when Kit's dad was alive.

Kit himself looks like he's 18.

That Kit is young enough to be his son.

I really don't see how this creates a plothole. Bastralle is 33 during the time of the game. 10 years prior, he helps Kit's dad so he is 23 at the time. Kit's age isn't listed but if he is 18 during the game, then he would be 8 when his father was sailing which lines up with his father leaving him at a young age.
