On top of whatever grinding and preparation you'd want to do, the actual end area can take well over an hour (obviously, it varies by your performance) but again, if you fail, it's back to the start for another round of boss fights. If you're not enjoying yourself and are about ready to drop the game where you are, honestly, I'd just youtube the ending if you're interested in the story bits and move on.
I tried beating the final boss, Galdera on my first playthrough with a guide and got owned.
You can grind yourself to lvl 99 for 20 hours but I'm asking why anyone that has any other thing to do in their life that is at least as worthwile as grinding lvls in a random rpg would do that. All of the bossfights up to Galdera are absolutely doable, sometimes more or less challenging. Even with the secret classes (maxed) and your lvl being 80-90, you're still getting owned if you don't precisely follow guides and have the matching equipment and the classes set to the proper chars. Literally any mistake at any time can end you easily. I love the game more than 95% of my steam catalogue, but this is just ridiculous.
And this says I, who beat Lucifer in Nocturne, Yiazmat in FFXII and all the Weapons in FFVII and VIII. And believe me, Galdera of Octopath is way more grindy and cheap death likely than those, even on perfect preparation.
You do realize that levels past 60 make almost no difference right? The difference in power from 60 to all the way to 99 is only moderate and not major, and you'll feel the difference even less considering your stats mainly come from equipment.
I didn't look at even one guide for the final boss, and I believe I beat it first or second try. It's a skill issue on your side, dude.
