If your party is level 35 there is no way for you to ever survive in a level 45 area

I usually start farming in Maw of the Ice Dragon (level 45 dungeon) at level 18.

Basically what you need to understand is that equipment in Octopath Traveler gives a lot more power than leveling up. Try to find ways to upgrade your gear and you'll be able to progress.

May want to try to get new chest, check the shop and check what you can Purchase/Steal on NPC's in town, some of them have valuable stuff.

You can go versus enemies way above your team lvl like Melodia&marcv666 stated.

With the correct setup , buffs/debuffs , job paths / active/ passive skills .
I got myself some cool axes , bows and stuff (Inferno Axe , Knowledge Staff etc) in high instances with
Cyrus - Evasive Maneuvers
Ophilia - Evil Ward

Dont forget to save on waypoints etc..

Gear , Nuts & smart fight choices
If you RLY want to deal dmg ofc you need the "Surpassing Power" on your dmg classes.
Damage is limited to 9.999 "only" without it . Seems ton for you maybe but there are bosses with 200.000+ HP

I was about to create a topic like this, but my main 4 are almost Lv50, I followed the advice from the thread I made a few days ago, but I starting to feel some chalenge again.
I think the caits in Maw of the Ice Dragon have stopped appearing for some reason.

I have some google spreasheet with the list of locations I have been tackling them, since I wanna explore anyway, but I'd like to give myself another boost.

This is the setup up I use when I start farming in Maw of the Ice Dragon at level 18, all stuff available early on and you can acquire all that without farming any money in Marsalim Catacomb if you know where the chests with money are. With this setup below you can kill anything in this dungeon on turn 1.

What I use on Tressa (Scholar job)
Rune Glaive: Grandport
Forbidden Shield: Grandport
Elemental Hat: Saintsbridge
Sorcerer's Robe: Everhold
Elemental Augmentor: Stonegard
Alluring Ribbon: (learn City of Gold Knowledge in Marsalim and share with NPC in Atlasdam)

What I use on Cyrus (any Job, Thief is probably best with Steal SP ability, but your SP gets refilled very fast when you level up so may not even be needed)
Wizard's Rod: Everhold Tunnel
Force Shield: Duskbarrow (More Plentiful Provision)
Adamantine Hat: Maw of the Ice Dragon
Sorcerer's Robe: Noblecourt
Empowering Necklace: Northreach
Alluring Ribbon: (Provoke Pathetic Father in Stillsnow)

What I use on Therion (Hunter job)
Viper Dagger: Marsalim Catacomb
Holy Longbow: Dragonson Fane
Force Shield: Duskbarrow (More Plentiful Provision)
Enchanted Circlet: Marsalim
Dragon's Vest: Goldshore
Mighty Belt: Stonegard
Sprightly Necklace: Moldering Ruins (Grave Robber)

What I use on H'aanit (Apothecary job)
Death Cleaver: Everhold Tunnel
Forbidden Bow: Goldshore
Force Shield: Duskbarrow (More Plentiful Provision)
Hypnos Crown: Moldering Ruins
Robe of the Flame: Victors Hollow
Critical Necklace: Marsalim
Sprightly Necklace: Northreach

Before I go fight in Maw of the Ice Dragon, I go get 1500 JP in Tomb of Kings just to get Percipience support skill. In Tomb of Kings I give Speed to Tressa and Cyrus instead of Therion and H'aanit... So I give the Sprighty Necklace to Tressa and Cyrus, and give the Alluring Ribbon to Therion and H'aanit. With Cyrus I use the Dancer Job for Dark elemetal damage and Knowledge Staff (Everhold Tunnel) instead to give speed. With Therion I also use the Warrior Job instead with Forbidden Blade (Refuge Ruins), and I use the Forbidden Dagger (Forest of Purgation) instead of Viper Dagger to remove all the speed on him.
