(Amusingly there IS a glitch involved with this sidequest but that ain't it)
1) Give the lady the dress and have her perform one last time there...
and
2) Also, do the sick girl side quest once the Blue Dancer finishes her performance at the tavern?
I've received training in writing and this is something that bothers me. I'm willing to bet that anybody observing this would think that both can be possibly done (especially since the pensive Mother and the Sick Girl are still in Sunshade talking about it after the tavern quest is complete).
I don't know - call me crazy - but if I was writing this, and I only had a choice between one or the other, upon choosing the tavern route I'd eliminate the sick girl and pensive mother from the script (thereby avoid user confusion in the first place).
Context, people, context! If the Mother and Sick Girl are still there, that prompts the user into thinking that something more can be done...and it isn't looking like it in this case.
As far as the game is coded, no.
Not sure why you're making a big deal about this.
Ultimately, it's about respecting the gamer's time. There's no doubt that a lot of quality time was put into this game. No question about that! I'm just surprised that the beta-testers didn't catch this incongruity. And this is an incongruity that - I don't think - many would have picked up on. Based on the wording of the script combined with the sequence (plus, the fact that the Mom and Sickly Girl are still in town and STILL talking about the Blue Dancer)...one would think that what I demonstrated in the YouTube video would indeed be possible. Again, it's about respecting the gamer's time.
This is what you, as the gamer, should have picked up on. The fact that you didn't isn't the programmer's fault.
I don't feel I'm mistaken about a player (I'll stop using 'gamer' moving forward) being confused via the issue I brought up above. Again, had that been me, I would have written out the Mom and Sickly Girl in the first place. Out of sight, out of mind. I mean, what purpose does it serve to leave them in town (saying the same things) if the avenue towards accomplishing that side quest is precluded? All it does in the end is confuse people.
