Therion or Cyrus as starter character?
Brand new to the game and can’t decide between these two. Both interest me as I enjoy being the rogue or mage in games. I know I can recruit each other later but who to start with?

Thanks!

There is no wrong or right character to start with. Pick which one you like the most. I started with Olberic.
Strictly looking at story-completion benefits, I'd go with Ophelia/Olberic first but beyond that, it doesn't really matter (and even that detail is hardly worth mentioning).

Between Therion and Cyrus, Therion has the unique benefit of being the only character who can open purple (locked) treasure chests if you happen to run into any between the start and recruiting Cyrus. Cyrus has useful AOE attacks and automatically identifies enemy weaknesses whenever a fight starts but can struggle with SP (this game's version of mana/MP) early on by himself.

But again, it's likely to be a very short time between collecting those characters if you want them both right away and they both handle well enough to get the game started so you'll be fine either way. If it helps, I prefer a Therion start because reasons.

Therion is my boy! Purple chests are great, you'll never need to backtrack to get those chests if you choose him too. Plus, he is so strong in endgame as a caster!
Thanks for the responses. Is there one who would make it easier for a new person to this game? Or just select the one that sounds like it has the better starting story? Thanks!

Also regardless of who I start off with what order should I go to recruit the others?
Started the game today, I picked Cyrus because he sounded interesting. He has a nice ability that lets you identify enemies weakpoints so I never need to guess. Not that I knew that when I picked him, I just liked that he was a scholar/teacher.

Don't you want to experience it for yourself without guidance? Don't get me wrong, I'm not judging you, I felt overwhelmed when I first played Fallout 1 at which point I asked my friend "where do I go now?"

But I can't help feeling that letting others decide what you do is sucking a bit of fun out from the game.

True. I think I will. Been playing both for a little to get a taste of each of them. I like both of them still having a hard time deciding
Well you can get them both in the game and, if you really want you can start with one then get to the other asap, (poking your head into each city along the way to enable fast travel to them) you can even just run from the battles if you wish to expedite the process.

Only thing to really decide on is if you want your "main character" to be a thief or a scholar.
Just to note you can't ever switch out the "main character" (without 3rd party software) during the game.

This is incorrect. You can swap out your starting character once that character has finished his or her fourth chapter.

Oh I didn't realize that.
I have to go check it out as I remember seeing the locked in symbol and, I guess I just never noticed it gone.
