Between Therion and Cyrus, Therion has the unique benefit of being the only character who can open purple (locked) treasure chests if you happen to run into any between the start and recruiting Cyrus. Cyrus has useful AOE attacks and automatically identifies enemy weaknesses whenever a fight starts but can struggle with SP (this game's version of mana/MP) early on by himself.
But again, it's likely to be a very short time between collecting those characters if you want them both right away and they both handle well enough to get the game started so you'll be fine either way. If it helps, I prefer a Therion start because reasons.
Also regardless of who I start off with what order should I go to recruit the others?
Don't you want to experience it for yourself without guidance? Don't get me wrong, I'm not judging you, I felt overwhelmed when I first played Fallout 1 at which point I asked my friend "where do I go now?"
But I can't help feeling that letting others decide what you do is sucking a bit of fun out from the game.
Only thing to really decide on is if you want your "main character" to be a thief or a scholar.
Just to note you can't ever switch out the "main character" (without 3rd party software) during the game.
This is incorrect. You can swap out your starting character once that character has finished his or her fourth chapter.
Oh I didn't realize that.
I have to go check it out as I remember seeing the locked in symbol and, I guess I just never noticed it gone.
