Who Did You Start Off With?
title says it all,i'm just curious to hear other's answers. why did you pick __ ?

I chose Tressa The Merchant cause just thought it'd be an appealing start to be an traveling merchant, and considering the fact my first ever DND character was a cheeky Dragonborn Merchant so I thought i'd give Tressa a try and see if it could be just as exciting as the old days.

H'aanit. Her Capture mechanic is more naturally usable when she's always in the party. And she hits like a truck even without it.

Also, I don't care what people say. I was charmed by her speech patterns. And I thought the person doing those lines did a great job.

Wouldst thou seek a personage to inhabit they genesis? Let H'aanit fill thy orisons!
Alfyn, idea of some axe guy going out in the world to try and make the world better suits a scandinavian!

Ofc I was tempting to go Ophelia since if you travel clockwise with her, you spell out "Octopath" Ophelia,Cyrus,Tressa,Olberic,Primrose,Alfyn,Therion,Hánnit = Octopath.

Someone said this is the semi-canon route probably... he might be right- I havnt played much of the game yet.

I started with Primrose. MISTAKES WERE MADE. I got past her boss and said screw it. Started another game as Cyrus. Much easier that time :pixelcyrus:

Wow, nice easter egg. Didn't notice this. I started with Ophelia because she is a healer, and I always want a healer in my party, but I screwed up the Octopath because I went west first and got Hannit. So I am doing Ohctopat... Cyrus and Ophelia are permanent members of my party now. I also like Hannit so don't want to remove her. So I have only a single slot to rotate other characters.

OMG. Thanks for that!

H'aanit for me, I dunno why but her story in character selection just hit me home. At first I want to play as Olberic because I habitually play as a tanker and he looks like one, but I just don't feel it with his story. In my first playthrough now, and her is a choice I don't think will regret.

Therion is who I started with. No regrets. Being able to open all chests early on saved me time on that pesky achievement of collecting all chests. Plus, steal was pretty useful early game (and also late game, since having a thief for Primrose's Chapter 3 boss fight makes getting obsidian armor all the more easier).

If I had to play the game again, Cyrus. I had no idea about the Strategist achievement being missable. Had I known that, I would of analyzed every enemy in each area before introducing the fourth party member.

For speedruns it seems like Tressa is the best. Hired Help is not scaled by gear or levels, so if you have money you will win most boss fights. I have yet to do this myself, but it seems pretty hilarious to beat Tressa's Chapter 4 as a level 14.

One of T's is Therion...

I started with Therion on my first blind playthrough. Knowing nothing about the game, I just went that route since I prefer using rogue/poison-based characters (even though SE games never really get those kinds of characters right in the gameplay department). Naturally, I found out that he didn't get any poison-based abilities but the two-hit dagger abilities ended up being good for breaks and he makes a pretty good SP-battery for the rest of the party in the early game.

Now that I know where things are, I usually start with Ophelia just because finishing her and Olberic's stories lets you access some useful items that are best picked up as early as possible.

The hell? Why would they make such an achievement in a game that is 80 hours long, has almost no replayability and does not even have a bestiary that shows what exactly you are missing. It is just cruel. What exactly happens when you introduce 4th member? Some enemies disappear? I thought it was missable because of bosses which you can't replay.

Update: I've found online info that when you get 4th member then some enemies actually disapper. It is sad.

It's rough, and it almost burned me out when I discovered it. Then I reinstalled the game, beat the true end boss, got all the chests, hidden items and quests done, and now I feel like playing the game all over again haha

I don't mind playing the game again, now knowing what I know. I'm looking forward to Fleetfoot and Lone Traveler, but I'm also looking forward to Strategist too! Starting with Cyrus and being meticulous about analyzing early sounds tough but there's only 4 missable enemies in Octopath. There's a guide on Steam that can help you, too.

Alfyn on the switch (i lost the game) hes a one man army with the right stuff. And overall the good wholesome guy.

This time i am using Primrose. She is the true Gambler class. You can just leave the the game to compelte luck including charming npcs. The best parts of her kit is the randomness. Also she as one of the best stoires and personailies to me any ways. Alfyn and Primrose are the coolest.

Primrose cause she seemed like the coolest character and revenge stories are fun
