- Completely uninstall and reinstall the game and manually delete steamapps\common\OCTOPATH TRAVELER\ wherever you have it in C:\ or D:\ or whatever in case you used any mods like Octopus Trapper or something.
- Use "Display Driver Uninstaller" (DDU) to remove the current display driver completely then install new driver from Nvidia website.
- If you are using Windows 10 LTSB 2016; Upgrade. To find out, run "winver" and please post your exact Windows version.
- If your system/videocard is overclocked, return it to stock.
Already did a reinstall as well as a GPU reinstall (found that other games have UE4 errors as well and it was suggested there)
Windowsversion is 1903 OS Build 18362.449
I did no overclocks, it's a laptop and i don't know if i even could overcklock ^^
Thank you for your time and reply
Can also try tech demos if you don't:
https://www.techpowerup.com/download/unreal-engine-4-five-tech-demos/
I don't think any mods would "fix it" as the game should be able to run on your machine by default without any mods, but like anything in life, experiment and see.
Other suggestions:
******************************
- Try running the game's direct executable as Administrator (Right-Click Run as Administrator)
- Try going into Documents\My Games\Octopath_Traveler\Config\WindowsNoEditor\GameUserSettings.ini
Delete FullscreenMode=0
Set PreferredFullscreenMode=1
(Force the game into Windowed mode)
Or just completely remove the entire Config folder too, that works.

- Try setting Display Scaling to 100% in Windows 10
- Try updating your laptop's BIOS, Chipset Driver, Intel HD Graphics driver from your laptop's manufacturer's website
- Try shutting off any antivirus/firewall software temporarily to test
- Try checking if your laptop has any RAM issues by booting into Windows Memory Diagnostics (Just do a search for it, click Restart now and check for problems)
- Try completely scanning your computer for malware using HitmanPro, Malwarebytes, ADWCleaner, RogueKiller
-Try DISM and SFC repair for Windows 10 using Administrative Command Prompt:
dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow
Display settings to 100% didn't work
Shutting of windows defender (only using that one, no issues so far) didn't work
Malwarebytes didn't find anything
RAM check didn't report any issues.
I am now downloading the benchmark before i'm doing any more steps. If they don't work that's on me i guess. Gamestop already said they are not taking it back, R.I.P my Birthday present then :/
You could also try directing the game manually in the Nvidia control panel to use Integrated graphics and just see if anything changes. It will run it at 60fps if you have to go that route.
Is there anything in Documents\My Games\Octopath_Traveler\Logs\ which might be able to give us some more info? I don't have any logs there, but you might.
Some people are reporting that pre-400 GeForce drivers are something else to try:
https://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/125516
I don't know if you have already tried the laptop manufacturer's GPU, Chipset and Intel HD GPU drivers too.
steamapps\common\OCTOPATH TRAVELER\Engine\Extras\Redist\en-us
Try installing UE4PrereqSetup_x64
Downloading the driver you linked me now and after that i'll try to find that setup you mentioned. Thanks again for your time and effort
Haven't updated my manufacturer stuff, to afraid to screw up :/

******************************
If we look at line 233 in D3D11Util.cpp we have code for "void VerifyD3D11Result" which I assume verifies that the video device supports DirectX/Direct3D 11
If we look at line 289 in D3D11Viewport.cpp we have something involving the establishment of VSYNC, from what I gather:
/** Blocks the CPU to synchronize with vblank by communicating with DWM. */
******************************
So basically what I gather is that Unreal Engine 4 is not able to determine that any of your video devices can support DirectX/Direct3D 11
Now, an interesting aspect here is that I myself do not have any of those folders that you have such as "\Develop\Engine\Source\Runtime\Windows\D3D11RHI\" etc etc. I do not know why those are there and why you have them, other people have them and I do not. I don't know if this has something to do with having the Epic Games launcher (I don't use it so I have no idea), if it has something to do with these games being installed on a separate drive (E: Drive), if you are some sort of game developer or what is going on there exactly. There are a few other people across the Internet who have almost identical errors that you do with that exact same error code "8876017C" and I noticed that they too have those mysterious folders there on D:\ or E:\ drives with all of the UE4 source code for some reason. Perhaps someone hopefully on here besides me can tell us why the heck someone would even have any of that.
Beyond that, I would say that if you are a developer who uses Unreal Engine, there must be some way for you to download an update for it. I can't see how as I do not have an account. I don't know if this has to do with anything, but it looks like there is a recent hotfix 4.23.1 which has a fix for D3D11RHI!VerifyD3D11Result() in d3d11util.cpp:
https://issues.unrealengine.com/issue/UE-65222
https://forums.unrealengine.com/unreal-engine/announcements-and-releases/1676103-4-23-1-hotfix-released
No idea if relevant, just thought I would mention it.
******************************
Based on the circumstances, I would try reinstalling the game to your C:\ drive (It is only like 3GB) and give that a try while disconnecting/temporarily shutting off the E:\ drive. I only say this as I do not understand why you have those folders and the game is trying to point to there at all when I do not have any of those folders in my install. I ASSUME it is because for some reason or other, the game and other UE4 games are identifying that you have the entire UE4 engine on your E:\ drive for whatever reason and it is pointing to there instead of just not needing any of that at all like in my install.
If that doesn't work, try installing the Intel HD Graphics driver from your laptop manufacturer's website based on the closest evidence I could find in a related thread for anyone who managed to fix this:
http://discourse.automationgame.com/t/game-crashes-on-startup-ue4/25148/8
Another fix is everything else fails is roll back to Windows 10 version 1809 if you can. I've fixed a lot of computers in my day and one of the fixes when absolutely nothing else worked was to use the previous build of Windows 10 when things worked properly. It seems like your computer is clean, generally problem and error-free and you don't have much if any bloat or any programs besides games probably and your game development work.
The problem here is that Unreal Engine 4 cannot identify that your videocard supports DirectX/Direct3D 11 which is a very low-level thing which likely has to do with some janky way that Windows 10 1903 is not communicating correctly between UE4, Intel HD Graphics and your 1050ti. That is my best guess.
I was just about to do a clean install of win 10, just need to find a how to guide for that. Already prepared the stick and got the ISO.
It's real easy, just use Rufus to burn the .ISO to a USB drive:
https://rufus.ie/
Partition scheme GPT, target system UEFI
Then use whatever function key your laptop uses to access the boot menu, Common boot menu keys to access the boot menu are F2, F10, F12, Delete or enter the BIOS and manually set the USB drive as the boot device.
When it starts the setup, you will typically have 4 partitions under "Drive 0", just delete them all (Not anything for Drive 1 obviously) then when you just have Drive 0 with free space, click Next and that is pretty much it.
Only other sidenote is you might want to predownload networking drivers like the manufacturer-provided WLAN driver just in case you are stuck with a laptop with no Internet access.
For some odd reason your exact error post is on Reddit under a certain ... Yeah. I think you know.
