I slept on this one for so long because it looked like a blah SE game trying to be 16-bit era RPG. That is my era of choice for RPGs...NES and SNES days.....but trying to be one???

It was a mistake to wait. This isn't looking like it is trying to be from that era...it feels 100% like it was!

Warning though: this is a very grindy game. That doesn't bother me because i don't mind kicking on some music, and fighting standard monsters over and over for hours. But if you don't like hours of grind, then this is definitely not for you.

Also the world map and the way it works is....probably my biggest issue with the game. I prefer a world map that is like 99% of the RPGs out there from those old days: FF, Dragonquest, Ultima, etc. Instead of getting the big character travelling the world and seeing all the surrounding areas and islands, there is no difference from stepping in a cave or traveling to the next city in this game. And the graphical style can make navigating the area a little difficult with how the background blends into the open area where you can walk.

But the battle system is dead on the money for a 16-bit RPG. It can take longer than expected for a battle to play out, but it feels a lot like the days of playing FF IV or VI. If that is your style of RPGs over FFXV or XVI....get this. This is the direction you want to go.

The price is pretty steep, so wait on it to go on sale. But then again with the grinding, I can easily see 60-80 hours to complete it. So even at full price, if this is your style.....you will get your moneys worth!
