Do I need to seize Vyborg to win Karelia as the Finns?
Or is it enough to hold Lappeenranta to win ?

You have to capture and hold both Vyborg and Lappeeranta to win this AG as Finns or Soviets!
As the Finns, I suggest you to attack and seize Vyborg very quickly at the beginning of the campaign! Otherwise Soviets will have a big red tide in front of you... Good luck ;)

The only approved win is when you push the soviets off the map ;)

Yeah the objectives are sometimes confusing. Like it'll say "hold/seize X", but isn't super clear on *who* needs to hold or seize.

Honestly I'm still not sure what the Finns need to do lol. It says I need to hold/seize Vyborg as well but attacking the Soviets looks like a bad idea. I just don't want to get involved in a long campaign and find out I didn't understand the objectives.

I ended up winning this. For some reason the Soviets moved their battalions away from Vyborg making it easy to push there.

what difficulty are you playing? im still new to the army general game and its funny i jump in this campaign that has a high complexity. lol

I like to play the bigger campaigns on easy because they're a commitment, although I consistently win against hard AI in skirmish. I just don't want to grind the same battles for 20 turns. I'll probably return to the campaigns I enjoyed the most and raise the difficulty. I really liked the smaller campaigns in the core game.

thats exactly my thought. I even lower to medium difficulty but felt tedious especially i have to micro for the whole regiment because the friendly AI do something stupid though campaign is interesting.

I had the same issue. I like to play against the hard AI, but the game gives me too many battalions to micro in Army General. I think friendly AI does poorly in battles like you said, so for me the best solution was to play on easy to make the long campaigns feel less tedious. It feels like the best non-ideal choice.

I wish there were only 1v1maps for Army General, or the game let you choose the scale of maps you could fight on in the campaign. I could see these big maps being fun for multiplayer though.

My tip is flank around the far south eastern flank and encircle the entire soviet army. Big meme

There seems to be a luck element. In my current Karelia campaign the far left flank attacked without having their AAA unit deployed, so I was able to bring in air and they could not...totally disorganized the front around Vyborg for a turn and was able to slid in some infantry (do note Vyborg is a 'urban' tile so stack infantry in the slot above it to maximize the bonus). Now I am just holding with little progress on the 1st. They attack (unsupported generally) from time to time but good AA deployment and shifting infantry from the spawn to the eastern flanks is really making this easy so far.

Make sure every chokepoint has some artillery coverage as well, so you can start each battle with your defenses deployed and with 12 artillery to pound their roads and force a dismount of their first wave. That gives time for you to secure a point or two and get a total victory before phase B or shortly thereafter.

Additionally, you can do as they said and swing your extreme SE flank through to get the cheese encirclement...but I avoid such strategies as it does not seem necessary at this point.
