it depends what you need, obviously at the start most things are required because you have nothing but lets assume you did two loot runs in which 90% of what you fetched home was wood, wood now would be a lesser requirement, so...

check what your low on in your journal, check what you need to unlock something new, or calculate what stock is generally down but anticipated as being required within a few days, etc

I am ok with backpack slots but how come keyboard takes one slot and mint which is hundreds time smaller takes one slot too. There should be grid and bigger items should take more grid space and smaller less.

Hi there, the suggestion for either more space, or smaller items taking up "less" space will be passed to the devs for review.

As long as the ratio of what you get from each item makes sense compared to what the different upgrade benches requires, I feel like it works just fine as it is. It's balanced. Concerning smaller items taking up less space than bigger items, I feel like that would just confuse things. It's a game, 1 item takes up 1 space. Makes perfect sense to me. I hate games that try to be super-realistic about backpacks with all items having weight or similar...

I quite like having to decide on what to pick up and what to leave behind. It makes planning upgrades more fun, and I don't feel like there's "too little" room in my backpack.

So yeah, Just wanted to point out that, at least I, appreciate it as it is.

Maybe instead of having item sizes, why not just have certain items that can stack? like 5x for small items, because even though realistically they would take up less room, there's still the overall value of the resources from the items.

A system based on item weight and volume would be better IMO.
A padlock and log of wood currently takes up the same amount of space, even though you'd probably need 30 padlocks or 100 boxes of matches to get to the weight of a log.
It would be fairly easy to do as well.
Define a backback volume, and a max carry weight for the character.
Assign each type of loot a volume and a weight.
If backback volume is exceeded you can't add it, and if max carry weight is exceeded you can't add it.

Would also make you think twice before stufing your backpack with pillows and wooden boards.....unless that's what you were hunting for.

Would also make it much easier to decide what loot to ditch for better loot, by adding a "sort by volume" and "sort by weight" options to the backpack.

The flat X amount of items is the laziest solution possible.
But I guess they needed to keep it simple for console players to understand it ;-)

While it may seem lazy, it would probably be the easiest to implement and like you said, it's best to keep it simple for the simps ;P
