My thinking also. It`s a game where you should be scared sometimes.
I would only say that doors could be just a little stronger.
Just a thought. I too find the doors just spontaneously grenading across the room to be a bit silly, but more along the lines of "I feel silly for being scared by that" sort of way. Haha.
Yeah. A way to lessen the jump of the scare a little is to allow the player to get a little heads up that something's about to go down if I open that door. At this point opening doors is just a bit of a crapshoot. Some doors feel like they're specifically programmed to just explode as soon as you grab the knob, and since there's no way at all to know which doors the zombies are gonna Kool-Aid Man their way through it makes opening doors a terrible experience.
So basically, my point is that your game scares me. I'm not helping my case here at all, right? Lol. But please consider maybe telegraphing it a little more to give us chickens a fighting chance at preparing ourselves so we don't get a hard attack every time. Pretty please!
Might as well be like "Can we make all the Zombies Bright and colorful and have flowers around their necks?" oh oh oh and lets "remove all the blood" And and while you're at it, Lets put BRIGHT lights every few feet inside every single building.
The only aspect of this concept that holds merit is the actual health of the door. And the fact that the zombies make ZERO noise on the other side of the door. That is stupid and needs fixing.
And this game could be A LOT more horrifying. Personally I don't find Zombies Scary, things I can blow the head off of might surprise me, but they're not scary. Now Paranormal things.... Things that You can't fight... those are Scary.
Don't tell me what to ask and what not to ask for and what games to play. The devs are allowed to do whatever they want with their game and accommodate the player requests that they see fit, I'm not DEMANDING that they make the game less scary for some players.
You misunderstand me. The jump scares are perfectly fine because they`re natural, they`re not scripted. I don`t want it to be less scary. I just think it`s a little unrealistic that they bash through a door so easily. In fact I think having a health level on the door so it rates from weak to medium to strong would be a good idea.
It`s a Mature rated game about zombies in a mostly dead apocalyptic world. If you ever watched the Walking Dead then you should know what`s coming.
Do try and be kind to other peoples suggestions, as that's all they are and if everyone stopped playing a game because of something they would like to see different, well darn we'd have no gamers left.
To clarify, the doors being more difficult to break down and perhaps better warning ahead of them exploding is the suggestion that we took from the original post.
Lets ask Silent Hill to be Less Scary.
Lets ask The Evil Within to be Less Scary.
... those games are great BECAUSE they are scary. Asking to change that is Just stupid sir, I'm sorry. If you don't Like Scary games... You bought the wrong game.
I understood you perfectly and I think it's a great idea. Giving the door a health bar by visibly deteriorating it as the zombies try to break it down would lessen the jumpscare a bit and make me dread doors less. The rest of the game is suitably scary for me, it's just the doors breaking down completely out of the blue that gets me. It's pretty annoying.
I have to agree with this guy. He`s right. Why get a scary game then ask for it to be less scary?
Thank you. I could have definitely worded my original post better and I understand why people say it makes no sense that I demand the game is less scary. I hope you just interpret my intended suggestion to be, exactly as you say, that "the doors are more difficult to break down and perhaps better warning ahead of them exploding", as that would have the side effect of halfway accommodating my wish. Let's leave it at that :)
