It is meant to be dark...That is why the flashlight is a main piece of equipment. You can modify the brightness in the settings.
I..Never pull my backpack out mid-fight. Only when I wanna pull out my sword. Sure it is easy to accidently grab and toss holstered weapons, but if you check your pockets every so often that issue is fixed.
You can sprint you know...
Health/stamina were never once a problem for me. Pick up medicine and bandages throughout the levels and use them wisely. Salvage all found food and make nutria stew instead. It doesn't ding your max health like found food does. Keep an eye out for diseased zombies and kill them at range cause they hurt your max health. I'd salvage bandages too. The lvl 10 upgrade is the only bandage you need.
Sounds like you just don't like survival games. Gotta prepare yourself before putting yourself in precarious situations. Make sure you have spare food/medicine/weapons before you leave for the day. Make sure you have ammo and weapons where you need them.
Now I do actually have some issues with the game, but they're nothing like what you've described. I would 100% recommend this game when it is on sale. The kinds of issues I notice are things like how hats are present but can't be worn. The story is kinda short and the ending isn't great. There are invisible walls at places there shouldn't be. The durability meters are imprecise. I'd rather have actual numbers displayed. There should be more control given when picking up items. It is really annoying trying to position tchotchkes on a desk when they always face away from you. There should be an option to turn items over in your hand. Standing at the radio or in front of an npc for several minutes at a time and not being able to multitask or walk away is kinda irritating.
My issues are mostly the small stuff. I'd still recommend the game though. Lots of fun.
Instead I control the world's unhealthiest man. Move slower than dead people and can only run for ten seconds before having a blackout.
I got it via the humble bundle so barely paid anything for it. Think I will leave it a while and maybe give it another go in a few months if the mood for something slow grabs hold.
I mean, it has it's flaws, but this is arguably one of the better VR games that came out in 2020. Let's break this down:
- So dark I can barely see anything.
Don't know what to tell you aside from using the flashlight and/or increasing brightness.
- Constantly pulling out a backpack when trying to fight off enemies (weapons keep vanishing).
I don't know. I never had this issue.
- Can't throw objects.
Yes, you can. If your throws are too high or too low, practice your release point.
- Movements mechanics are horrible and clunky.
I'll give you this - sometimes movement in the game is clunky. I don't think it's game breaking or ruins the experience, but it can sometimes be annoying.
- Move slower than enemies.
Not if you run
- Pathetic amount of health/stamina.
Used to keep the game balanced. I didn't like this at first until I realized that it was a part of the game. You're role playing a character - role play a little.
- Respawn with no weapons and none available nearby so it's certain death.
Yea, it's a tough game.
- Tip suggests I should climb a drainpipe - appears to be no way off it except straight down to death from enemies that have congregated.
Go through the window.
I just don't buy your argument, at all. If your frustrated with the game, refund it. Otherwise, you have to play it the way the devs intended it to be played.
I haven't tried that many VR games to find worse ones. I also just tried Boneworks which is very highly rated and found that, whilst technically fairly good, it was about as much fun as watching paint dry. That got refunded.
Problem is some of these VR games seem to be based entirely around walk here, put that there, pick this thing up. I feel like I'm supposed to be impressed by mundane tasks just because they're happening in VR.
Saints and Sinnners feels slow, clunky, too dark and like it will be a chore to play. It doesn't fit with the glowing reviews I've seen. I would refund it but I got it as part of a bundle.
The first VR game I played properly was Super Hot and I was blown away by it. I was hoping other VR experiences would build on that level of immersion but I'm finding the opposite because they're based around such boring repetitive pick that up and put it down over there actions.
Boneworks is a bit of a polarizing game that has a lot of small engine quarks and issues. Despite playing the game for 24+ hours, I think it needs more improvements. Even I found the "features" the last update frustrating.
If you are looking for something with a bit more quality, maybe try out Half-Life: Alyx or Vertigo (Remastered). If you like the liked the fast paced nature of Superhot, you should also look into Sairento VR, Raw Data, or In Death.
If you are into multiplayer, Pavlov is always a great option, as is Contractors and the ever increasing popular Battle Royale, Population: One.
You can also check out some of Steam's most popular VR games by checking out playercounts here: vrlfg.net to get some ideas.
I already own Raw Data. Unfortunately doesn't work with Virtual Desktop so it's gone to the bottom of my pile knowing it'll be a space-restricted experience.
Half-Life Alyx I haven't tried because it's expensive and I didn't like Half Life 2 - I really don't like puzzles or anything where I'm standing around trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do.
You've mentioned a few there I hadn't heard of so I'll take a look at some gameplay videos.
I don't really have the skill levels/reflexes or patience to get good enough for competitive multi-player shooter stuff. I'm old enough to have grown up on arcade games and I like stuff that's linear/pick up and play - anything that's overly complicated to get going or bogged down with storytelling puts me off (which is a lot of modern games).
Vader Immortal
Super Hot
A-Tech Cybernetic
Zero Caliber
That's all I'm comparing against when criticising the mechanics.
If you like shooting but want to skip long story games with complicated puzzles, you should check out Hotdogs, Horseshoes, and Hand Grenades. Check out Propagation VR also - it's free a lot of fun.
Otherwise the most impressive VR game to me has been Blade & Sorcery. That melee combat in VR is a unique experience.
1. Yea, although on my VR its more like a constant muddy grey...
2. Not had that problem. Sounds like your positioning is off.
3. Movement is fine.
4. You can run. You'll move slower if you're exhausted (low stamina) or panic.
5. No. It's ok. You can increase it a bit later. Don't get bit. Much. You can take about 2-3 bites before dying. And considering that one bite would normally be the end of you (cos you're infected), you got let off lightly since you're immune.
6. Yea, that kind make it difficult later into the game, but on first levels you can get it back pretty easy. If it's too hard, go home, sleep, make new stuff
7. They wouldn't let you climb the drainpipe if you couldn't get off. When you get up, there's a ledge to the right. Grab it with one hand, then reach over to the window next to it. Then PULL up (bring hands donw and up). Also don't take too long doing it or you get tired and fall.
Just takes patience.
It's ok as a VR game, but if it was 2D it would be considered kinda mediocre.
