Although of course it's also useful in pre-horde situations, dealing with a few zombies at a time in open space is not really a danger in the game, the danger is when there are more and they're at the place you need to get to or if they catch you off guard while you're dealing with humans etc.
Getting zombies near your objective to follow you to a car to dispatch them doesn't work ideally in that case because by the time you get back to the goal, more will be spawned probably, and you've only added more wear and tear to your gear when you could have just dispatched those that were there the first time and got it, rather than dispatch them and then also dispatch the respawns.
Clever design all around, warts and all, far from perfect, but it generally works out!
WTF! Thank you!
Heal, swap out your weapons and such if you got a lot of zombies around you.
Oh and you can kill them from on top of the car
