Wait out the night?

I like how the game is punishing me with the bells, but do I have to go back to my safe place every time I'm too late? Can I outwait the night? I tried this for a while in the blue mansion, but I grew tired of waiting, so I wanted to ask if it's actually possible at all.

I'd like maybe just a little more time before the bells start ringing too though.

you cant wait out night....what i do is find a gas can 2 hand it push all zombies whit it cost no stamina and run back to boat

I actually tested this by going back to the little boat and letting the bell ring. You can`t wait out the night, time never moves forward. You`ll just be attacked again and again until all your items break then you have to run..

thats why finding gas can is so usefull can push zombies endlessly and you can escape
