If it’s the one where you have to collect so many of a certain kind of animal you just have to look around the area for the requested animal, then click them to collect.
Left click it. It moves your camera to the spot where you should search for them. Or near the island they are on.
They should be hightlighted in blue (blue border around the animal) when you see them. Then just hover over it and left click.
E.g. "The wild animals are living in the mountains of your island" or "The wild animals are walking through the streets of your city"
Pretty helpful for some quests e.g. if the target is a special building like the church.
Ultimately I do not believe it does anything for the game, but could be wrong.
There is no issue with failing the quest
There are bears/wolves that roam the island that you CANNOT click on, that was interesting. :)
EDIT:
It gets better. You lower your render distance? And then the jump-to action on your quests is disabled. And still no wild animals. Figures.
This is an ooooold thread from 2019. Why not make a new one? Your bug is not the same issue OP had from TWENTY NINETEEN.
That said, verify your install. Then delete all your trees on your island and see if the animals are easier to spot.
I'm not invalidating your struggles but for what it's worth, I have 2k hours logged into the game and never once had an animal quest bug out on me. They are always damn somewhere.
And after you have 1mil in the bank, it's rarely ever worth dealing with these puzzle quests anyway.
This is the #1 result of google. There is no reason not to point out this has been an issue since launch.
your advice doesn't apply, you didn't even bother realizing which quest he is talking about.
