I'll put it simply. as every DEV WHO MAKES A GAME HAS STATED EVEN BG3 DEVS have shamed people because of them giving negatives towards devs.
A games development cycle consist of teams that have.
1: New additions/Content Designer
2: New Systems/Sounds Designer
3: mp/co-op if the game goes this route.
4: Art/Game Designer
5. 3d modeler/Animator
6:Programmer/Test
7:QA/Programer.
8:Level Designer (AKA Maps/areas/houses etc)
Next how games are made and not rushed.
Create New Content/Get the Game systems Inc Co-op/MP everything you vision for the game added or planned to be in a 1.0 Release. this includes moving engines/upgrading
Roughly around 0.9 games will start with optimization i.e fixing long lasting bugs that would of taken to much time away from creating the game or bugs that will re-appear later in the games cycle.
They will before 0.9 Flesh the game out yes this means letting game bugs stay and fix bugs that are considered game blocking that would stop you being able to play or progress.
Mid around 0.4 to 0.8 they will start likely adding MP/CO-OP which ever they decide CO-OP is easier to do as its usually limited to 4-8 and does not require a whole ton of stuff to do besides making sure every area is clear of desyncing etc between all users.
Around 0.75/0.9 They will either upgrade engines if need be
at 0.9 they do a major overpass on bugs while still adding content but mainly the focus is doing a pass on bugs listed they know of and leaving minor ones that rarely pop up till 1.0 release.
by then they have gotten most stuff they want added into the 1.0 release.
At 1.0 then the team decides they are either done or continue making the game better and go for a 2.0 which will require them at some point to make DLC's to continue working on said game. if a game adds DLC's before 1.0 well then its a cash grab and however the rare chance they do DLC Early could also to keep funding the game.
People do not grasp that once you list a game for a price on these platforms you lose a pretty large cut and you also have to pay steam overtime for using the platform.
Also this games being ran by one person remember they are basically doing everything there self this is one of the hardest things to do and it also is done because they usually do not trust others for good reasons .
Lets also not forget most games last 1-2 years then rush 1.0 and poof.
Look at The night of the dead? They rushed 1.0 after they had planned mod support a new map and new systems and now they are gone after making millions.
7DTD another example 1.0 to 2.0 support after a decade and nothing the backers were planned to get has stayed. everything they promised was removed and backers were told get over it.
Another example ARK SA they promised all future DLC/maps would be free for original ark owners then went back on there word and now charge arm/leg.
Another is myth of empires adding 2 DLC and releasing broken content and whats that? you cant refund as game time you prior had counts as playing it.
I have worked with one Dev that took him 20 years to get his game out, i worked for him the last ten of it, and the last 2 years was he only able to afford to get a team due to sales. even then he had almost gone under at one point. im working with him still and his new game with a team of 30 devs now. plus another game by another company.
Did you ever realzized, that this Game is 90% made of already exististing Assetts? Do you realize, that this Game has the same mechanics for over 6 years? STOP complaining, just stop.
iTS TIME FOR MORE STORY!
and i already understand how game development works since i been working with 2 indie companies for the past decade.
and believe me, they get the same type of criticism.
common complaints.
it's taking to long
patches broke my mods.
why haven't you fixed ( insert bug name ) yet?
why haven't you hired more devs yet?
when is the release date?
the game devs of ( insert game name ) works faster than you
it's always funny watching people who have no history in game development try and tell a developer how to do their job.
This is how you respect your current player base and game development.
"...but people here complaining don't understand game development."
Probably most people complaining here don't even understand what they read... I guess it would have to be a video to make more sense.
