I'm bad at fury.
Hi, I picked up Dead Island in one of the recent sales and have been more-or-less enjoying it--giving Logan a try since he seems fun. But there's one big problem that's bugging more and more the further I get: I suck at fury. I'm playing co-op with a friend and we're part of the way through act 2. I have only ever managed to reach Fury once. It's not that I'm dying or anything--far from it. The problem is that the bar fills so slowly and completely resets every time I level. I swear, every time I level up I'm at 95% fury and there it all goes again. I specced into fury generation and everything, but no luck. What exactly generates it? I seem to get more from taking damage than dealing and kills feel like they have virtually no effect.

As I get further on, I'm increasingly feeling the strain in being denied what I assume is a core mechanic of the game. My co-op partner can't figure the thing out either, but Sam B. cares far less about...anything. Hell, a huge chunk of my skill points are invested in a bonus I never see. Probably doesn't help that I messed up my spec a bit and deal piss-poor damage. Any tips on rectifying this?

On a related note, how exacly do I use Logan's fury? The one time I saw it, I basically facedesked trying to find exactly what it wanted me to do. Do I spam click attack? Do I hold attack? Do I hold aim and then click, like I'm firing a regular weapon? Do I aim and and then hold attack to maximize throwing rate? I'm sure I'd figure it out given enough activations, but that's not exactly a booming market right now.

Anywho, sorry for the late-night rambling. My internal editor turns off after all-nighters. Any help would be much appreciated.

Um, I wouldn't recommend Logan (throwing weapons expert) as your first character, pick Sam B (tank) or Xian Mei (sharp weapons expert). Skill Sam B right and you're on your way.

I like logan. is very easy to fill the fury bar, you are doing something wrong, you should use skill points in habilities that make you fill the bar faster, like: killing with throwing weapons fills the bar XX % faster, another one: you need XX % less to fill the bar

with the 360 pad you hold RT and press LT repeteadly (or viceversa, i dont remember very well)

logan's fury has a range, you will see the enemies marked with a red marker, like when you are going to throw a wepaon

Thankee kindly, that's actually something we do quite often--especially as enemies have gotten significantly scarier and our offense hasn't increased all that much.

I maxed +% fury when killing an enemy and still see virtually no change in the bar. Come to think of it, the only times I can remember seeing my bar significantly increase are while driving and when I got stuck in a corner witha thug and took a lot of damage. Which means I'm doing something SERIOUSLY wrong.

While I do thank you for the advice and probably would follow it if I could, my existing character is already 10ish hours in the game and I'm playing co-op exclusively. I'm not going to tell my friend to wait, roll a new character, and redo everything. Do you have any advice for working with what I've got? Is there a way to respec?

I use this skill tree:

I always throw weapons and then close combat

try to go for dismembering and decapitations. Criticals (for breaking bones for example) are a huge part of filling fury for me.

You are far enoff into the game where you can make the plague knife. Makes anything stop and puck. Then just whale on them untill they die. That should give you alot of fury. Look up Skulls for a guide to get these new enchantments.

Just checking - do you think the fury meter is the red circle that flashes when fury is available, or the yellow bar that goes across under your health. Because the yellow bar is your experience which shows when you are about to level. Fury doesn't reset when you level, but your experience bar does.

I have no idea how to use fury for Logan once you have it though, I have only played one character so far who pulls out a gun and you just blast away at anything in sight while it is active - great for taking down Thugs in act 1 (especially like in front of the hotel where there are two guarding the security key) when you don't feel like trying to joust them for ages.

I've never had a problem with fury... Takes about 25-30 kills to generate a full bar without extra skills. I use Xian as my main... As for easily killing boss mobs, just go for their legs. If you take it off first swing, then it's one shot kill on any of them. If not, then you will get a tonne of crits. And yes, the fury bar is the little red one around your icon top left and no it does not reset on each level.
