REZ PLZ (Nintendo Switch)

[Spawn of Totoro]

Purchased this game on Switch a year ago for my wife and I and just got around to playing it today. After I accidentally hit her character after the beginning intro, we noticed she couldn't more or do anything except swing her own staff.

We restarted the game and this time I hit her character intentionally, to see if it would happen again, and so it did. She hit me with her staff and neither of us could move after that point.

Is this intended or a bug in the Switch version? If it is a bug, is there any way to fix it or a possible patch for it in the works? Or is does this just happen to be something she and I are experiencing and no one else?

I couldn't find anything out about it when I checked on Google, hence why I am forced to ask here instead.
