Game Won't Even Launch
Since day one, this game will not launch for me. The Ubisoft player loads up the first time, says syncing saves, then disappears. Then nothing. There's no window that occurs, no process on the taskbar, both steam and the ubisoft launcher act like the game only ran for a couple seconds.

A crash report even occurs in windows error reporting for ACIII.exe.

This is different from another issue some have had where the process loads but doesn't display correctly; this is often resolved by editing the ini file so it can launch with a different configuration.

My issue, and many other people's issue as well, is that it won't even launch at all, with any configuration.

It's completely broken.

And it's interesting to note, this is only AC3. Liberations loads perfectly fine. Just AC3 won't.

I created a support ticket on day one and despite my constant demands, they do not appear to have a bug report system and are continuously giving me responses like my system (which far exceeds the necessary to play in 4k even) is somehow not supported.

I've gotten responses from "AC3 won't run on windows 10" (and referring to the original, not the remastered, even though the original runs fine on windows 10, and I specified my ticket was for the remastered version) to "your windows isn't up to date" (even though it is) and more.

Not once have they acknowledged the issue is on their end or indicated they have any plans to attempt to patch it at all.

This is completely ridiculous. If I had paid for this game and not gotten it as part of odyssey season pass, I'd be demanding a refund.

Thanks for the update on your Shadow use Thortok2000, glad to hear its update resolved the crashing issue. I believe the new Windows OS update is currently Update 2009 (20H2) build number 19042 which can affect issues like this if not updated to the latest version, apologies you were unable to play the game for so long.

Hey JolBalrok thanks for sharing your solution of deleting corrupted save files, this should be helpful for any other players experiencing the same after recently buying the game on the Steam sale, thank you.

I'd like to mention that I also just purchased AC Syndicate and it won't boot at all for me either, bringing my total to 4 AC games that won't boot, so this is an issue that is affecting pretty much every AC game besides Origins and Odyssey for some people.

I fear the only way to play these games at this point is to dust off my old computer, think I may just refund instead.

Syndicate works for me

If your game window starts to load but keeps minimizing within a few seconds the fix is a simple one:

Close minimized game by clicking the "X"
Go to the folder "%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Assassin's Creed III Remaster\"
Open the "Assassin3Remaster.ini" file with any text editor like notepad.exe
Find and change to "WindowMode=1" (this changes fullscreen to windowed full screen)

(Do same for folder "Assassin's Creed Liberation HD" file "Assassin3.ini")

Done. Run game and enjoy!

Except that's not the issue here as I said in the original post. There is no 'starts to load'. It literally doesn't even start at all. And the ini file is never created. There is no ini file in that folder.

If you were able to find the folder:
"%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Assassin's Creed III Remaster\"
and the ini file wasn't there,
then you probably need to uninstall and reinstall because I seriously doubt it can start without the ini file.
The installation is probably incomplete.
This is going to sound like too much effort, but it might help you narrow down the issue:
I recommend creating a new windows user with admin privileges, uninstall and reinstall.
If the ini file is missing it might indicate a windows user privilege issue.
If that works, then change the original user type to admin.
I realize you probably have tried running as admin, but what I am proposing is installing via Uplay as admin.
It can also be a damaged user. So if it only works in the new user then you will have to eventually scrap the old user anyway.
Good luck.

No, that's not it. The installation is complete. The ini file is created the first time the game runs. This is typical for most games, during the loading process, they look for an ini file to read a configuration from, and if there isn't one, they create one as a default and then read from that.

Don't believe me, delete all the files, and reinstall the game yourself. Before you load it for the first time, the ini file isn't there. Delete the file completely and launch the game...it'll just remake it with the default configuration.

In my case, the game is literally crashing before the part where the ini file is created or read from.

Alright, so for those that are dissing Shadow, the cloud gaming service, I myself have the same issue, and am using Shadow. However, there are people on the Shadow cloud gaming service that have gotten the game to run perfectly fine with no issues from the beginning. It's Ubisofts end, not Shadows. And, I'm still struggling to resolve the issue months later.

Who? How? Are you sure you're not confusing with the non-remastered version?

I have the same issue, the main game just load a white screen and then closes, but liberation opens just fine. Thortok2000 have you made the game start now?

has anyone got any kind of fix, i dont use shadow or anything, its all loading off my pc directly (i7 8700k, 1080ti FE, 16gb ram, 1tb m.2 boot and 6tb hdd mass storage, windows 10 home 64bit) my problem seems to only be with ubisoft games originally made before win 10 (far cry 3 and older, assassins creed black flag and older including remastered) i never used any of the weird programs or anything nor had i heard of shadow before reading this, ubisoft service didnt help me i spent 3 days trying their fixes and nothing came of any of that. This issue only seems to happen with ubisoft games, i can play games as old as COD WAW, colin mcrae dirt 2, and arma 2 (all different developers and old enough to be windows 7 games)

Did you ever fix this? It's freaken 2020 and I have the same problem, Ubisoft really needs to fix their game. My specs are more than enough to run this game, idk what the problem is.
