Why is this the only one they remastered?

The 3. (this) needed polish (the remake still needs a lot as well)

I don't entirely agree with that... Whilst they were/are masterpieces as you say the first one particularly could do with an remaster, at least in terms of graphics..

They can’t even be bothered to remaster AC1 and 2, my fav games in the franchise. But looking at Ubisoft’s track record for the last decade it’s probably for the best. “Didn’t use your account for 2 years? We’re gonna yeet it along with your games that you’ve purchased throughout the years. No refunds lmao :^) ”

Edit: Big Mad™. I see I made some Ubisoft fans angry lmfao. Stay mad. This isn’t just about inactivity, if your Ubisoft account gets hacked and they’re unable to recover it you’ll lose everything, all Ubisoft games you bought on Steam will be gone. Trash like this is why we need better consumer protection laws. But muchísimas gracias for the awards, I’ll gladly take your Steam points; my profile is badly in need of some upgrading.

AC2, Brotherhood, Revelations, 3, Liberation, Rogue were remastered for the consoles.

AC3 remastered came to pc, the rest did not.

Black Flag was intentionally released twice in 2013, but it is not a remaster.

I was somewhere in between. Neither my favorite, nor particularly deserving of all the hate. I thought Connor was one of the least interesting protagonists ever, but then again, he was only one character. You also had Haytham and Achilles, who are easily two for two my favorite characters in the series. Not to mention the everything else. It was an even bigger improvement in scope and polish over its predecessor than 2 was, which is quite the accomplishment. Not to mention having my favorite setting in the whole series.

But on the other hand, it also had that weird ending with Charles that even if I think I get what they were shooting for, didn't really work. And a lot of other little oddities, like the running through buildings thing or the way that every climbable tree was identical.

I partially agree
AC 3 was my first entry into the francise so this might be biased
While I enjoi the story and the sidequest(s) both the original and the remaster do lack in distinctive quality
Like ridable offroad
More usage of the homestead etc.

I'd venture saying that Assassin's Creed III (AC III) was the only AC game they've remastered was mainly due to the crappy control mechanics that the game engine used to have.
Although I really liked it's story and characters, the awful controls and horrid in town's parkour pretty much made never to replay it once I was done with it.

For me it was terribly odd to adore way more being upon the outdoors forests doing memories or side activities due to the game's mechanics working better than actually the rest of the game.
