Are all the assasins creed games stand alone

I have never got round to buying any of these yet but just wondering if the story line follow the next one or are they all stand alone.

Are their any i should avoid because some postings says pc's go 100% on all sorts of things.

Every Creed game has contemporary timeline which spans through multiple games and you'll get spoilers for previous games there.

Well, yes. Though contemporary timeline is quite short compared to the main gameplay which takes place in some of the ancient times and places.
Also AC2, AC2 Brotherhood and AC2 Revelations all have the same hero in ancient times and so have additional connections to each other.

Each game has a modern day (21st century) storyline and a historical storyline. I will not elaborate too much to prevent spoilers.

The modern day storyline continues in every game of the franchise. So if you want to understand the modern storyline, you must play each title in (mostly) the release order: AC1, AC2, AC brotherhood, AC revelations, AC 3, AC liberation, AC4 blackflag (and freedom cry), AC rogue, AC unity, AC syndicate, AC China, India, Russia, AC origins, AC odyssey and AC valhalla (as of January 2022)

The historical storyline in each game is pretty much stand-alone. So if you don't care about the modern day story you can play whichever titles you like and in any order.
That being said, as MASTAN mentioned above, the historical storylines in several games are closely linked.
AC2, brotherhood and revelations are closely linked and are actually part of the same trilogy.
AC 3, 4 and rogue are closely linked, and loosely linked to unity and liberations
AC China, India and Russia are another trilogy.
