My Bow Disappeared...

So, at some point during Sequence 4, or at some point after completing its last mission and starting the first mission of Sequence 5, while still playing as young Ratonhnhaké:ton (the age he is at during the first hunting mission) in his native attire, I noticed that I couldn't use my bow.

It was visible in my weapon wheel, with 8/8 arrows, and I could assign it as my secondary weapon, however, I could not bring it out. The bow wasn't even on my back anymore - there was literally just an empty quiver - the weapon itself wasn't there, nor were the 8 arrows I supposedly had. I couldn't use Reflex Shot and I couldn't aim.

The same issue still persists - I have waited until Sequence 6 to make a complaint about this. Ratonhnhaké:ton is now an Assassin, and the bow still hasn't reappeared.

I can select the bow just as I can select my pistol - yet I can't play with it because it vanished into thin air.

It's not in the Homestead Armory, nor is it available in any of the previous memories! I tried going back to the hunting mission, and the bow wasn't available there either, so I couldn't shoot the hare I was supposed to! I tried replaying one of the Haytham memories, since he doesn't have the bow. I loaded one up, aborted it, went back to replay the hunting mission, and still nothing!

It's gone for good and I can't reacquire it from a trader either... Forget it being fun, forget it even being a major gameplay feature - I can't complete objectives which require bow kills, meaning that I literally cannot achieve 100% progress, despite all the fun I've had in over 16 hours of playtime thus far, ready to praise the game for all the fun I've had freeroaming. Now it seems all of it was wasted.

Can anyone help me?

Afraid it's a useless struggle. The only reported solution is playing through Sequence 9 Memory 2/3. I kept playing without a bow until that point and then I just started all over again because the bow never came back for myself, just like it didn't for many others online.

TL;DR: Unfortunately, there was no solution in my case.

I contacted Ubisoft Support regarding this issue 4 years ago. They advised me to try playing through Sequence 9, Memory 2/3, since a few players reported that they were able to reobtain their bow after completing that mission. Sadly, this did not work for me.

Ubisoft Support was also able to confirm that no further patches would be coming to Assassin's Creed III Remastered. Therefore, this bug, which IIRC has been present from the original release, is never going to be fixed.

I recommend speedrunning through the story until you are able to play through Sequence 9, and if that doesn't give you back your bow, nothing will.

I ended up having to start a new save file 19 hours into my first playthrough, replaying everything from the beginning, because I wanted to obtain 100% Sync and all achievements. I couldn't do so without the bow.

I hated having to speed through the story for nothing, and I hated having to restart the entire game. I sincerely hope that you will have better luck than me, because this bug completely ruined the game for me.

If you get your bow back, by making a new save file or through any other means, do not under any circumstances try to parry an attack with your bow in hand! To this very day, that remains my best guess as to how I lost my bow.

If you find a fix for this issue, please share it! But more importantly, if you can remember how you lost your bow in the first place, post that information here as well. It could save other players lots of trouble.

Speaking of bugs:

Since you're having issues with the base game, I'll assume you haven't touched The Tyranny of King Washington DLC yet.

Word of advice - from my experience, when you first start up the DLC, the game will have made an empty save file for you. DO NOT use this save file! Make a new one, and play with your own file!

Several players online, including a close friend of mine, found that all the progress they made during their first session on the pre-made save file got DELETED the next time they booted up the game.

I was fortunate enough to avoid this bug at least. Make sure you avoid it too!

Given how buggy this game is, I strongly recommend that you Google where the local save files for Assassin's Creed III Remastered are stored on your PC. Once you find the location, back up the contents of that folder after every single session, so that you can reload them if the game throws any more BS your way.

I'm sorry that this happened to you. Best of luck. I hope you will still get some enjoyment out of this game. Make sure this bug doesn't discourage you from playing the other games in the franchise though!
