We understand the your concerns and have already taken actions to appease our customers. Nonetheless, we will certainly take your feedback into consideration in an attempt to try and improve our services further.
If you please, thank you.
I own more than 2400+ Steam games, and can buy as many games as I want, but I agree with the OP, one major factor that decides if I buy a game or not is if they censor the game on Steam or not. So if at all possible, please do not censor your games for Steam.
I also hope that DLSite, will bring many more your games to Steam as I am sure you will greatly increase your sales with Steam's large customer base, and also especially now that Steam allows Adult Only content.
One of the main factors that is necessary for us to bring a game to Steam, is whether the game can run without error in an English Windows environment.
Many Japanese indie games are created without taking this factor into consideration and due to the nature of their design, these games will often require the Windows system locale to be set to Japanese to operate.
Please note that such games will not pass Steam's review process and as such, whether a game can come to Steam or not relies heavily on the developer's programming prowess.
>> Lvl 10 Torchic
There's method in our madness.
You can find further details regarding the different versions of this game on the official DLsite English twitter. @DLsiteEnglish
You know, there's a way to express your opinion whitout having to be/look like a complete tool and feel completely abrasive, what? do you think insulting/calling people names it's gonna make your argument look more valid? think again.
Even if i agree on the fact Lvl 10 Torchic@ was a bit lazy and just asked for too much, and the free external patch is a complete reasonable solution ( that's actually what i've suggested myself in this post) i do not agree on the way you decided to present your opinion, there was no need to start insulting or calling people names.
We're not on tumblr, we're here to share opinions/suggestions and discuss about these things peacefully and in a civilized manner.
There's no need to insult people and call them names just cause they have a opinion different than yours, in this way instead of validating your point of view you just ended up looking like a complete tool.
All that said, as a customer you have all the rights to fell " entitled" to enjoy a pleasant experience.
Pretending people tol buy their fully censored product here and then offering a paid patch on their main domain it's ludicrous and completely unreasonable.
There are multiple reasons of why people search for eroge games here on steam, for example, you can pay with paypal here, some people just don't wanna use their credit card to complete a purchase for many reasons so they won't ever buy anything on dlsite to begin with, also eroge games on steam tend to also get more love/ content here, for example, by adding things like achievements, cards, backgrounds and badges, steam also gives people a better way to leave reviews, screenshots and even create communities around games, on steam you can also release mosaicless art, many eroge games made in japan have already done this here on steam, and those kind of things you simply can't get on dlsite( for obvious reasons, you mentioned yourself).
One final point i feel i need to make, if you really want to sell a product on the west or generally speaking, somewhere else, you need to adapt to that place's different rules and customs, you have to bother to listen to feedback/people and mold your release for that place accordingly, it's literally your job as a company, it's pointless to defend them and call your fellow customers "entitled", they're not making charity here, they're a company that's trying to expand their market aand make more money.
As a customer you completely have the right to demand for a product to adapt to that place's needs/demands.
And people have all the rights to ask and discuss these kind of things, for example, if i ( and other people aswell) wouldn't have brought up the issue and complained about it, we will still be left into a situation where that "MONMUSU * FIGHT!" sh
You need to tell this things, you need to make companies understand these things and voice your needs/opinions.
This is a thing that both us as customers and companies need to do/understand , if people stopped complaining and just accepted every bull
Making an eroge game is no excuse to delivering a subpar product, eroge games need to improve to actually become fun games that can be enjoyed both ways.
Proof of this need you can easily find in most American triple A companies, EA, Activision, Ubisoft ( etc) these are all companies that keep living despite the enormous level of low effort/negligence and scummy practices just because alot of people accepted and keep accepting their bull, as a result of this, all the product they now get out on the market are inferior bug filled lootbooxes and microtransactions ridden messes.
And why? because instead of demanding quality, by giving feedback/complaining people just learned to bend over and these companies and let them go to town.
As a customer it's important for you to demand passion, quality and to give help in form of feedback to companies.
if you start defending this kind of behaviourit left and right that's just what you're going to get in your hands in the end, a pile of useless, subpar steaming S
I don't know if that's your thing, but if i'm going to spend money into something ( your product), i demand ( and i have all the rights to do so as customers) quality and passion.
That's what both people, and companies need to understand.
it's in their interests to deliver a good product to us, and at the same time, it's a necessity for people to demand quality, or else you end up getting companies like, for example, Blizzard, a great company that has made amazing games since it has been founded, ruining itself by releasing crappy ios games using crappy reused chinese game's assets.
You need to demand quality and then vote with your wallets if they fail to deliver said quality, so people/industry can set a standard.
By apologizing these kinds of behaviours you just keep lowering the bar to the ground.
dive entire companies to the ground( if you keep making c-rap, no one is going to buy your game)
If you want to appeal to a wester market you have to stop doing :rotsigning :Machine translations and you HAVE to give people uncensored patches, that's not being entitled and it's the normal industry's standard.
if you're going to increase the price a bit because you have to pay legit translators we don't care. you just need to do it.
There's literally no point of selling a machine translated censored eroge game, as there's no reason to sell a separate patch on your website.
You won't make enough money, cause you have to give out the game basically on the store for free and people won't be happy anyway and will just stop buying your games alltogheter.
On the other hand, keep selling uncensored ( or patchable +18) games here on steam, don't cut content and give us legit english translations and you will have no problem here anymore you will expand your market and make even more money.
Any other " normal game" in the world has already instilled in itself the need to localize their game in other countries, because that makes them more money, eroges are no different, they have the same need to adapt in order to sell and make more money.
People won't stand for censored/machine translated garb, and i think, at this point, we all know that.
As a company located in Japan there are, of course, things that we can and cannot do.
(Just as there are works we have that can and cannot be released on Steam / in the USA.)
That being said, we will not give up trying to expand our market.
As long as developers are creating (supply) and customers are purchasing (demand) we will continue to stay afloat in the adding "plus alpha" arena (English / Chinese translations).
You are indeed correct that an All Ages version means more publicity / visibility = potential sales.
There is also another similarly related reason.
People in China are blocked from viewing adult content on Steam and this game (as with many of the game's we release on Steam) is translated into Simplified Chinese. Thus, we would like that demographic to be capable of viewing and purchasing the game.
If possible, we would like to release both the All Age & Adult Only versions on Steam. (However, whether Steam will allow multiple versions of the same game with different language options under different app IDs... Well, that is another can of worms which needs further investigation.)
We will look into how region restrictions work and see if it can be implemented without the main game being blocked by China regardless. Thanks for the advice!
That's basically what i was trying to say, also there is no reason to get angry and call people names just cause you have a different opinion from another person. ( i was referring to Redonia@ which insulted and called @Lvl 10 Torchic names).
Good, because blocking content just to be able to sell to china it's pretty bad.
Thank you.
That usually happens when the game isn't tagged as sexual content ( as dlsite explained, they decided to keep it that way to sell in china) , which means, people will think this is just a pricy censored platformer and skip buying this alltogheter, also they're not advertizing the game on steam, Japanese devs don't usually have the habit to contact/ send games to curators here on steam to review, ( i'm a curator myself, i'm accustomed to this, the only instances where japanese eroge games get sent to a curator it's if they have been localized by translators, look Meltys quest, Fallen Makina,Yukino etc.. ) , which means, the game it's less likely to get some visibility, and it just piles up under all the others.
I agree.
If you guys do bring over that stuff over on Steam I'm sure a lot of people in certain markets are far more likely to purchase those games! Good going guys and good luck ^^
