You can, the current version (live not sdk) will get hard to solo once on the hard map, it is much easier with another person shooting the monkey's at your feet, but you can.
This game is for clans and you can lose everything!
But you can play one....
The reason is simple, I dont care how much of a CHAD you are, you cant 1v5. So when your on your walker as a solo, your literally prey to EVERYONE. Additionally, if your thinking maybe you just get kitted-up, get some iron gear... terns out becouse of how the resource nodes work in games, its actually easier for 5 guys to get kitted in 5 sets of iron, than 1 guy to get kitted in 1 set of iron. So those same 5 guys that jump on your dingy, are also gonna be better equipped than you in addition to out numbering you.
So yeah game cant be played solo.
Season 5 and schematics were a real bummer for me.
It's one of the grindiest seasons there is because you need to build bases to safeguard your walkers from sandstorm damage which in previous seasons didn't exist and you didn't need bases to safeguard your walkers because you could just drive them off the map.
I spent most of my sessions just gathering resources to build a garage for my dhingy and then I had to spend even more time to gather resources for the maintenance costs of the garage and the garage was still too small for it because between not being able to get proper terrain to put the foundations and the fact I'm restrained by a 30m2 it meant the first real walker schematic I got my hands on needed such a complete revamp of my base my game loop lead me to be constantly deforesting everything around me.
I read that the devs planned to have progression being tied to exploration but there can be no exploration if the resources needed for progression increase exponentially with progression.
Also, the fact you can't dismantle your old walkers for resources and you can't store them in a lobby when you're not using them makes this a game where you better be really sociable and pray for the rest of the players to be sociable too or just get friends to play with this otherwise it feels like a waste of time to me.
Yeah 100% Season 5 was just pure grind. Pulling the ability to lobby walkers was the worst idea in a long long line of bad ideas. It goes COMPLETELY against the whole 'solo focus' thing they where going for. What killed it for me though was the Hot Spot placement system for adding things to your walker. But thats just me.
That and the fact that technology became a lootbox game where you start collecting more recipes but then you can't find enough shrines to actually unlock the stuff.
