- Can climb up vertical walls.
- Can hang on surfaces indefinitely.
- Is capable of wicked tight turns, which lends itself to being able to get away from attacking walkers easily.
- 3 pack slots, useful for PvP or PvE items.
Firefly
- Has a deck.
- Can cram a decent amount of stuff on it.
- Has only one pack slot.
I vote spider almost every time personally.
Firefly can outrun spider, once you get out of the woods/difficult terrain.
You can walk on the deck of Firefly while having it on cruise control, possibly shooting people who are chasing you.
You can mount a fricking Repeater turret on a Firefly deck.
Firefly is cheaper, so it's easier to make a quality one.
You also don't have to choose one walker, so might play with one or the other depending on mood and/or purpose. Personally I would not use spider for the desert, it's potential is wasted on open plains, it really shines in the canyons/mountains/on rocks though.
Granted I'm also not certain about the layout of other oasis, like if they all kinda go open desert with small lush pockets or if some are more solid lush or something. I think it's just the map I'm on atm it's basically 4 pockets of green in each corner with a rocky middle area but I *really* hate driving the spider between those pockets, I literally logged on, started driving then ended up going back to the edge, taking my crap out and switching over to my Firefly lol
I do have a small wings upgraded dinghy with guard rails but I'm just worried about bringing that out into more dangerous areas, I'm kinda unsure how hard it is for that to get theoretically wrecked, though I haven't looked at getting the tier two upgrades yet
Stiletto seems like a death wish unless I get the small wings for it but that's a tablet soooo not happening for a bit
I would consider using the firefly as a base and the spider as a scout. With the spider that can pack things you can actually pack a bolista and shoot the crate and then bump into it backwards into the wood where it spawns and it will destroy it.
The Firefly may be my favorite for hard maps as even with wings they're extremely low profile and the wings disappear amongst the trees anyways. More importantly it's got a very narrow frame for slipping between trees, no larger walker can keep up with the firefly in the woods and even a spider will be too slow and unarmed, whereas the firefly can have a chest a stove and a ballista all on deck meaning you can outrun anything that's chasing you so long as there's tree cover around and you don't even have to get off your walker to harpoon chests and farm fragments.
Granted if all 4 of us are in we'll usually go with a dinghy or stilleto just for the presence and weaponry. But if we're trying to efficiently farm mats and frags, firefly rocks on hard maps, spider on mediums.
This becomes really obvious, once you add armored legs and it starts looking like a Tarantula.
It cannot be faster on flat ground than a Firefly cause then you wouldn't have that choice - do I want reasonable speed with wings, but no climbing or do I want to sit on the walls, but be slower?
In the end I find myself riding the Firefly more, because it feels like a ship and I can build stuff on deck, so it kinda boils down to what feels better for you.
We participate in Last Oasis for enjoyment, and you will enjoy Spider more if you go for ravines, Firefly more if you go for the desert wreck hunting and/or Nurru.
