It's a multiplayer game. I've never read about devs even remotely hinting on wanting to convert it to single player. Frankly it wouldn't be fun at this stage. They promise to add more PVE content for new season, whenever that is, but even in extremely unlikely case if PVE content was to increase lets say 2 times IMHO game wouldn't be fun to play single player, at least not for long, it just wasn't designed for that. It's built with multiplayer in mind from ground up. Like you're driving a giant walker, there's no mechanism to have AI shoot turrets for you for example, it's all meant to be crewed and used and fought in by people.
Like for example small monsters aren't really a threat to a walker, at this stage they never even jump on top of it to attack you and can't really do any damage to walker/structures you build, while larger monsters require you to use turrets to shoot at them to do damage.... so you're back to needing a crew. Without a crew, aka multiplayer, you're cutting out already sparse amounts of PVE content that is available, making it even less fun. There are exceptions like Killin and Nurr, medium sized creatures that can do some damage to walker, and you can choose to engage them with ship mounted weapons or in melee, but it's not meaningful to keep entertained for a long time.
There was a big creature reveal devblog for season 5, next big update, and from reading through it again it's more and more content for groups or players. Certainly it's PVE content overall, and people are looking forward to it, but the creatures it will introduce are bosses, that will require crewed ship, and in most cases multiple crewed ships. So as far as upcoming solo content, things don't look like they are going to get hugely better anytime soon.
Don't get me wrong, there's huge amounts of things to do for a person on their own. Hell, I could spend days playing this game without talking to a single person and being quite entertained building things and gathering things, but in the end all the things I gather and build are MEANT to be used by groups of people together, to have fun playing with friends and against enemies. Like you keep building ships and stockpiling ammunition/gear, the most fun (maybe even THE ONLY) way to use all of that is fighting against players, as NPCs are just the means of gathering materials. Somewhat diverse and entertaining ways of gathering materials sure, but they are only the means, not the ends.
if you set up & host the server local on your pc and set a password on it only the ones you give that password are able to join. Did that back when season 4 went live for a bit to only play with a buddy of mine to check out the game
ah so it work that way .. what you did there i do with most of these type of games ment to be online only.
