I think the lock and HP should be separate though, you beat it to unlock it, then once it's unlocked and empty you absolutely should be able to tear it down for materials. Especially if it's a higher level workstation.
The reality is a scavenger would get more use out of the machine than whatever was inside it but we can't 'use' a workstation we break into, getting resources for breaking it down can at least help build your own.
At first i thought it helps to clean oasis, bc ppl leave but stations stay, but since we burn oasis on daily basis, there is no need for clean service.
I think it was bug once, for a week or something after one patch (when had DB issues), and then back to normal, i mean it should produce output now. I remember when i was making water in others camp fires, and then after patch i coudn't for about a week but now it's fine again, or atleast was few days ago.
Would like to see the ability to actually take the stations and still think they should be worth some resources if destroyed/disassembled after unlocking but knowing that I can use them if I need to will decrease the destruction of stations overall.
Plus of course like you said you get bit of resources from them.
Place them on your faundations, and this boxes and faundation is yours now, dont need to brake in
Used to be most things like boxes weren't locked when you get them out of a broken spider. Just by placing on ground. Not sure if it worked for crafting stations, but certainly did for boxes stored in spiders.
