Finding quality clay & soil

So I understand that when you place an excavator on the ground, and look at what you can craft it will tell you if the spot is quality or not. The apple trees on a hard zone are the places we can go to test out if there is quality there or not. I'm trying to build a quality excavator and quite a few of apple tree spots have been walled off by clans. Are there other places or indicators on the medium zones or other places on the hard zones we can look for quality soil/clay/ ect?

The best way to make quality clay is to use a quality excavator and high quality ash (I burrn lvl 80 trees lol), that way you will still get high quality clay regardless of source.

There are quality spots in the clay areas that increase the clay quality. One place I used plain ash and got quality 8 clay. When using quality 9 ash I got Quality 21 clay .. both with a level 6 excavator. If you move the excavator one foot (length of bit on excavator the clay quality drops to 2.

So yes it is luck and a bit of effort.

Not loving this quality system at all. The way the clay works sounds worse than most of the problems people have with it.
