RTCW Unofficial v1.42a Patch (Fixes problems on Win Vista/7 32bit/64bit)

Apologies if this has been posted before but for those who are having trouble getting Return to Castle Wolfestein to run on Windows Vista and Windows 7 32bit/64bit, try this unofficial patch by Knightmare.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein Single Player v1.42a Unofficial Patch
By Knightmare ([e-mail])

This is a simple patch that fixes the startup crash caused by newer video drivers
(commonly misattributed to Windows 7), adds fully native widescreen support, and
a few other fixes and tweaks. It also fixes the crash at the level transition
from the dam to Paderborn (village2).

It is based on the v1.41 source released by John Carmack in September 2010.

As this release is not made or supported by Gray Matter, id Software, or Activision,
please don't ask them for support with this.

You should back up the WolfSP.exe, cgamex86.dll, qagamex86.dll, and uix86.dll files
in your Return to Castle Wolfenstein folder before installing this.
This can be done simply by making a subfolder called "backup" or "old" and moving
the above files there.

To install, just extract this archive into your Return to Castle Wolfenstein folder.

Note that this patch includes modified menu files in sp_pak4.pk3. These files were
edited to add the new "scralign" attribute to various objects, to change how they
scale in widescreen video modes. System.menu was also edited to add the new video
modes, anisotropic filtering support, and hardware gamma support. Mods or map packs
which change the menu files will need to be edited to replicate these changes, or
they won't work right with this patch.

Tested myself and working great on Windows 7 64 bit.

thanks for the links now i know what to get when i buy the game can't wait to meet up with those walking skeletons with that medival armor on.. was this the latest wolfenstein or was there another ?

I use this patch, and every time I change the resolution, I get a menu that's obscenely zoomed into one corner. When I quit and attempt to enter the game, I crash. This has happened in both my w7 64bit i7 geforce 660 ti desktop and my w7 32bit i5 geforce 425m laptop. I cannot for the life of me find a way to fix this, and am surprised that more people haven't encountered the same thing.

Edit: since I posted here, I managed to solve the problem myself. Solution is noted in my thread on the matter.

Tried it here on a non-steam version, and it works great. Now, if only something could be done about Max Payne and Max Payne 2!

What's wrong with MP2? I know MP1 is plagued with sound problems in cutscenes, but someone made a fix for that long ago called MaxBatch.

Put the patch in, but I'm suffering about the same issue as Catlin, get the graybox and then the exe file stopped working error pop up comes up.

My game was also just going to a gray window after the patch. Here is how I just fixed it:

#1 - Make sure game is not running.
#2 - Go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Return to Castle Wolfenstein\Main\" and delete the file "wolfconfig.cfg"
#3 - Start Game. Should work now. (Did for me in Win 8.1)

I went through wolfconfig.cfg in Steam\steamapps\common\Return to Castle Wolfenstein\Main and edited this line:

seta r_glIgnoreWicked3D "0"

changing the 0 to 1.

Patch installed, everything is nice but brighteness is terrible: Everything is darker and almost unplayable. Any solution? Brightness scale doesn't react.
All is OK after reinstalation..Now only to fix fps drop.
