Return to Castle Wolfenstein

Return to Castle Wolfenstein

Wolfenstein - The Old Blood Thoughts?
Absolutly love RTCW and loved The New Order, although not as much. But The Old Blood also looks really good and has people like Helga von Bulow back in it. So whats everyone think?

not Helga Von Bulow but a different Helga. But it seems like Old Blood is a redo of sorts of Chapter 1 of Return To Castle Wolfenstein since we'll be going throuh the very same castle, village, and catacombs. Even though the story is well after that and takes place between Wolfenstein [console only and takes place after RTCW] and Wolfenstein: The New Order. I expect to see plenty of references to RTCW.

I really have no problems with it and it is definitely a preorder.

If it's Wolfenstein 2009, it isn't console-only, but got retired from Steam a while ago.
I don't think they will have the Lopers in it though. Nor the zombies. I don't know why they got off the paranormal topic. New Order had little to no actual reference to zombies, mutants, or anything of the sort. Hell, nothing from Wolfenstein 2009 was brought up either.

I found those things to be the best part. Put the game apart from others really. Especially the lopers.

They're actually bringing the occult back to The Old Blood. In fact I think thats a zombie at the end of the trailer as BJ saws on the shotgun. Never get a good look at it, whatever it is but it makes sense. Its kind of a reference to the Evil Dead.

5-8 Hours. Probably be in the 5 hour range for me, perhaps less considering they claimed New Order would take 15 hours for a single playthrough and it took me 10. That said I'm perfectly happy with 5 hours for $20. Both RtCW and Wolfenstein 2009 take about 5-7 hours for their single player campaigns.

I miss a multiplayer mode that kicks ass like RTCW did back in the days!

Yeah thats not too bad then. Would be interesting if to see if they bring any DLC out for it but then again, this is bascially DLC for the new order.

Booted up RtCW to see what my last save at the final boss battle was on the difficulty below the highest and I've been playing 4h21m. This is a game I've played over and over, I know it in and out and I love it, thats why I said 5-7 hours. I think thats about average. Checking How Long to Beat actually says 8-10 hours, but I'm usually pretty good at first person shooters. Not rushing either, read all the documents and watch all cutscenes. I just don't die often and I think it comes from years of playing online shooters like Quake 3, RtCW & ET.

I've played RtCW only once on Steam because I have the original XBox version which contains an expansion packs worth of extra content.

Don't assume that I'm putting RtCW down for having a shorter campaign... in that time it focuses entirely on the action and gameplay of the experience so I completely agree with you that RtCW is longer than New Order when it comes to actual time spent PLAYING the game. NO Took me 10 hours and was stuffed full of cutscenes, empty story levels, documents, letters and audio logs.

If i remember rightly wasn't there some like magical priests in one of the mission on RTCW but only on the Xbox version. What was all that about?

Yeah undead priests, they use some magical electrical attack and they show up in the Church of chapter 2. Also German Shepherds with venom guns mounted on their backs making a few appearances. They're very similar to the armored versions in New Order. New shotgun in some missions and a prequel chapter in North Africa too.

Negatives of it include removal of the sprint system and items associated with it (beersteins), removal of BJs journal entries after missions (oversight?) and general issues of a console version (controller, lower resolution and lower quality textures but not too bad). Having played the PC version to death I feel the new stuff more than outweighs the negatives of playing it on a console.

Yeah i agree. Playing on Pc is much better for the game. Would have been nice for them to expand on the RTCW story line a bit. Alot they could have done with it. I just dont fully see the connection with the new ones to RTCW apart from the idea of Germany having advances in tech and everything.
