After making a new save file, exit to the menu, and then load into your new save. This makes it so that when you test the new save file for crashes upon death, you won't accidentally still be testing the previous problematic save file (if you've noticed, RTCW will often load the 2nd to last save instance one time upon death if you recently made a new save, presumably as a failsafe for the player in case you saved at a bad time, giving you one chance to avoid being softlocked). So yeah, just make sure you actually load into your new save file so you're avoiding the game loading back into the previous, possibly corrupted save file going forward.
If making a new save file doesn't fix it, let me know.
OK, thank you very much for your advice.
