in "x:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Return to Castle Wolfenstein\Main" search for wolfconfig.cfg => open with notepad => find "mode" via searchfunction and replace the number with 1. then you re having the default resolution again

There is several cvar using the word "mode", it is r_mode as a full word.

once you find r_mode, via the search funtion in notpad, it'll be highlighted...press 1. So that r_mode is replaced with 1. It'll work

What if the config. r_mode already had the "1" but still can't change the rez any higher?

verifying game cache intergrity fixed it for me
Check your installed programs in add/remove and if you have "zeckensack glide wrapper" remove it. This is the ONLY thing that worked for me. I tried editing the cfg file, I checked the cache integrity, I used Windows XP compatability mode and I tried the unofficial patch. Nothing worked until I uninstalled the glide wrapper.

So currently I have it running in Windows XP SP2 compatability mode with glide uninstalled. I'm still on 1.32, not the unofficial 1.42 patch.

I did see someone that said simply move the files of the glide wrapper to a backup folder, which didnt work, only actually uninstalling it from Add/Remove programs worked.
Hope you get it working.

Now to see what resolution this is stable at.

What video cards do you have, which OS are you on? You may need to update drivers to enable GL support...

Have you tried the fixes I've listed in the guide I posted above Lord gymir?

you can just delete wolfconfig.cfg to fix the resolution problem. upon first start a new wolfconfig.cfg will be written with the begin values
