Need Help With Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
Hi, I'm having an issue with Wolfestein: Enemy Territory (ET).

NOTE: I realize this is not RTCW, but since ET and RTCW have many similarities, and thus, have many of the same problems, I figured someone here would know the solution to my problem.

See, I'm in a very odd situation, and it goes like this: I was playing on one of my favorite servers when I noticed the leaves and trees had a white texture to them. I said this in the chat, and a friendly person told me to open the console and type in r_primitives 4. Immediately after I did so like an idiot, my PC freezes and I'm forced to shut it down and restart to get it working again. Now, when I attempt to join that server or other particular servers again, I will be able to connect, but the screen will be "frozen" and the sound will still play as normal. This happens right after the loading screen. It has gone from a "frozen" loading screen to now a gray screen after setting my r_primitives back to 2. This also happens with r_primitives 0. The sound will still play normally and even the controls will work fine, it is simply the screen that is pure gray now when I finish connecting to certain servers. I noticed the particular server I am attempting to play on has NoQuarter.

After a bit of comparison, I realized the white textures on leaves and trees were actually snow textures because the server has a Christmas mod which is used during the month of December, and because I found the exact same snowy leaf textures on other Christmas servers. I realize this makes me look like an idiot and is very embarrassing, but I simply want to enjoy my childhood game during such a special time of the year and would really appreciate some help.

I am running a custom autoexec file in which I modified the original etconfig to change the following:
r_mode to -1
r_customwidth to 1440
r_customheight to 900
r_customaspect to 1
r_aspectratio to 1
r_primitives to 2

My graphical settings are all on maximum excluding Vertical Sync, and I am running an Nvidia GTX 460
I am currently using Windows 7 64-Bit
The game has no issue starting up. It is simply the gray screen issue when I finish connecting to certain servers, like the NoQuarter one I told you about earlier. It is a >RC, or Renegade Clan server. I have been playing on their server on and off for 4 or 5 years. I also have the game configured to run as an administrator.

Please help me, and thank you.

Is there some .pid file hanging in the NQ profiles folder? (that's a file generated on game load and removed when closing it, but stays there when crashing, and thus tells the game it crashed)

Have you tried to completely reset the config by removing it (make a backup in case), but keeping the autoexec then lauching the game?

I am unable to locate a .pid file in the NQ file, but I just found a very important clue: in the *silent* folder, I found not only a .pid, but an etconfig file that had r_primitives 4 in it. I think that means the Renegade Clan server was not a NQ server then, it was a silent one. I'm going to switch it back to 2 and let you know immediately if it works!

My attempted fix worked! Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Once again M@tEo$, you have made life better for RtCW and ET players everywhere!
